Job Description

Rockwood Engineering is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in power systems to join our dynamic team. This key role involves leading the design, analysis, and protection of electrical power systems for a wide range of projects. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will oversee the development and implementation of power system solutions for clients across various industries, including power system design, generator interconnections, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and power system protection and analysis. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of power system engineering, a passion for innovation, and a commitment to ensuring reliable, efficient, and sustainable energy solutions.

Responsibilities

Power System Design & Engineering

- Lead and manage the design of electrical power distribution systems, including medium and low voltage systems for commercial, industrial, and renewable energy projects
- Develop and review electrical drawings, schematics, and technical specifications in line with industry standards and client requirements
- Conduct detailed system studies, including load flow, short circuit, and coordination analysis
- Ensure that all designs comply with local/national codes and regulations

Power System Protection

- Design and implement power system protection schemes to safeguard electrical equipment and ensure system reliability
- Perform relay coordination and settings, fault analysis, and support protection system testing

Power System Analysis

- Conduct in-depth analysis of power systems using simulation tools to optimize performance, identify inefficiencies, and address potential issues
- Perform system analysis, including short-circuit analysis, arc flash, and harmonic analysis
- Provide technical reports and recommendations based on analysis results to improve system performance and reliability

Generator Interconnections

- Lead the design and integration of generator interconnections to ensure seamless and safe integration with existing electrical grids, including renewable energy sources
- Develop technical solutions and oversee installation and commissioning of generator interconnection systems

Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure

- Design and support construction of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure for commercial, and public installations
- Analyze site requirements, grid capacity, and integration challenges to ensure safe and efficient EV charging solutions
- Collaborate with clients and vendors to select appropriate charging technologies and develop cost-effective installation plans

Project Management and Client Liaison

- Act as the technical lead on multiple projects, managing design deliverables, timelines, and budgets
- Provide expert advice and technical support to clients, ensuring that project goals align with their operational needs
- Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of projects

Team Leadership and Mentorship

- Mentor junior engineers and support the development of technical expertise within the engineering team
- Provide guidance and review the work of team members to ensure high-quality standards and project success
- Foster a collaborative work environment to promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement

Qualifications & Skills

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Advanced technical report writing – arc flash, coordination, power quality, short circuit, root cause
- Advanced knowledge of SEL relays (751, 2440, RTAC, 735, etc.)
- Power system analysis using ETAP and/or Easypower
- Creation and troubleshooting of power system protection, control schematics and logic
- Experience coordinating with utilities for generator interconnections
- Experience coordinating with ESA for plan review submissions and approvals
- Experience in all areas of power system design (208V-44kV)
- Experience developing and supporting execution of field commissioning
- Expert level 2D AutoCAD
- Solid understanding of industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NEC, IEC, OESC etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and experience in client-facing roles
- Experience with project management and budgeting is a plus.
