We're looking for a Senior Manager, Payroll, to join our high-performing and fun-loving team. Reporting to our Chief Financial Officer and working closely with the People team, this person will lead the payroll team and oversee and direct the payroll function for all Canadian and US employees across 5+ studios. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a passionate and talented team on complex payroll operations and make a big impact.
In this role, you can expect to be responsible for:
1. Managing the activities of the payroll function
2. Developing policies and procedures for payroll process and timekeeping; responsible for the development and implementation of procedural guideline improvements
3. Ensuring the generation of the company payroll, vacation and sick leave accrual, overtime and withholding status
4. Takes ownership and overseeing a Payroll project for implementation and integration and working closely with project managers and stakeholders
5. Review reports and analysis prepared by Payroll team members before submitting including the RRSP and 401(k) contribution files and benefit invoices for reconciliation
1. Legislative Reporting and Compliance
2. Meets all government reporting requirements for payroll taxes, withholding and employer contributions
3. Keeps abreast of legal and regulatory requirements that have an impact on the organization's payroll management, compensation and benefits, and adopts requirements and communicates changes to management and stakeholders as needed
4. Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential
5. Ensures that the segregation of duties is maintained within payroll so that no one person can process or make unauthorized changes to the payroll
6. Maintains payroll system, ensures data integrity and suggests/implements system upgrades and enhancements
7. Serves as subject matter expert for payroll systems, identifying opportunities for process improvements
8. Troubleshoots system issues with internal stakeholders/external vendors and communicates resolutions/remediation with end-user experience in mind
1. Team management
2. Leads the analysis, identification, and development of strategies for improving existing payroll processes, systems, and system integration by providing subject matter expertise and influencing decisions
3. Establishes and drives the team's vision and goals in alignment with the organization's overall strategic direction
4. Reviews work done by staff and provides guidance
5. Regularly participates in 1:1s with employees, as well as in the staffing, recruitment, onboarding and performance review processes throughout the year
6. Espouses and fosters a growth mindset by engaging self and encouraging others to continuously learn through training, mentorship, providing feedback and coaching
7. Builds accountability within the team as well as cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working effectively together to enable each employee and the department to succeed
8. Cultivates a safe environment for the team that allows for disagreement over ideas, conflict and expeditious conflict resolution
1. ICFR related Responsibilities
2. Approves timesheets by employee's line manager
3. Prepares and reviews preliminary payroll report and comparative analysis
4. Checks and approves RRSP and 401(k) contribution files
5. Reviews and approves benefit invoices prior to submitting invoice for payment
6. Identifies/researches and resolves payroll issues
7. Leads payroll related audits
Your background includes:
1. PCP Designation
2. 10+ years of Payroll and Benefits administration experience for Canada and the US
3. 5+ years of experience managing a team
4. Experience processing payroll for over 500 employees
5. Knowledge of federal, provincial, and state payroll regulations and requirements
6. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and GSuite
7. Proficiency in Dayforce, ADP Workforce Now, or other reputable payroll system

$116,500 - $150,900 a year
The typical hiring range listed above is specific to candidates located in Vancouver. The salary will be determined based on your knowledge, skills and competencies, and you'll have room to grow after you join
