Overview

The Complex Care and Recovery Program is seeking a full‑time, permanent Team Lead for its Forensic General Unit C (FGUC). Reporting to the Manager of Forensic General Rehabilitation Unit C, the Team Lead supports the Manager in anticipating needs of the inpatient unit, collaborating with the interprofessional team to deliver client/patient‑centered care consistent with CAMH’s vision and strategic directions.

The Team Lead will manage communication, liaison and coordination of client/patient admissions, discharges, transfers, and appointments during assigned shifts and for future shifts as appropriate. The successful candidate will facilitate service delivery, ensuring a high standard of quality and safety.

Responsibilities

• Ensure nurse/patient assignments are clear, accurate and properly recorded according to unit processes and CAMH standards.
• Coordinate and assign breaks, break coverage, close observations and client appointments/activities off‑unit for interdisciplinary staff; continuously monitor and assess unit needs and advocate for changes in staffing complement as needed.
• Link new inter‑disciplinary staff—Nursing Resources Unit staff, new graduate nurses, agency staff—to unit resources and facilitate orientations.
• Coordinate and/or assign appropriate unit staff to assist students of all disciplines and address client/patient care issues.
• Collaborate with the manager on staff participation in off‑unit meetings, training and educational events such as Nursing Practice Council and Education Rounds.
• Lead unit clinical rounds, forums (morning rounds, team huddles, unit debriefs), community and care conferences as appropriate.
• Coordinate shift reports per CAMH standards and facilitate communication within the unit and with other service areas.
• Ensure accurate census/unit reports, bed‑flow reports, transfer of care reports, and other relevant reports as required.
• May carry a patient assignment depending on unit milieu, census and staffing, and perform other duties as required.
• Support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, teamwork and compliance with all applicable standards, and contribute to development, implementation and evaluation of best‑practices in nursing and client/patient care.

Qualifications

- Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

- Current BCL (CPR) certificate.

- Preference for candidates holding or pursuing a BScN and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.

- At least two years (or 3900 hours) of clinical experience within mental health and addictions, preferably with a forensic focus.

- Extensive experience working with a population experiencing major mental illness and forensic history; able to navigate the forensic system and mitigate risks related to aggressive behaviour, elopement, self‑harm, falls and other acute symptoms.

- Experience and skills in basic CBT and group therapy.

- Knowledge of DSM‑V mental health diagnoses and criteria and main treatment modalities.

- Knowledge of the Ontario Mental Health Act and applicable forms, Ontario Consent and Capacity Act, and Ontario Patient Restraints Minimization Act.

- Proficiency and leadership in problem‑solving, decision‑making, conflict resolution, negotiation, communication, delegation, critical thinking, team building and interpersonal skills.

- Fit to participate and lead a physical intervention with a behaviourally dysregulated client, including use of mechanical restraints.

- Ability to think at a program level and contribute to unit‑level and organization‑wide change initiatives.

- Effective verbal and written communication with the team and management; knowledge of interdisciplinary roles.

- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).

- Expertise in maintaining a culture of safety for staff, clients, families and visitors according to CAMH and regulatory standards.

- Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language is an asset.

Compensation and Work Hours

This full‑time, permanent position is a 1.0 commitment, which may be subject to change per the Collective Agreement. Additional hours may be available based on operational needs. The position is part of the ONA Bargaining Unit and will be based at the Queen Street site, Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 15:30 day shift.
