Job Overview

Reporting to the Information Technology Supervisor, the Systems Administrator is responsible for the smooth delivery of information technology (IT) operational services. The incumbent ensures the effective coordination of technology deployments and solutions delivery projects. The Systems Administrator is responsible for all servers, storage, virtualization, cloud and software systems deployed by the Board. As a key member of the technology team, the Systems Administrator provides IT support by resolving higher complex problems (Level II) and addresses everyday service requests relating to workstations, servers, network, and software as well as interacting with clients to provide guidance, training, and follow-up. The position is responsible for engaging the marketplace to find solutions to meet the Board’s needs and ensures all front‑line IT services are delivered efficiently, in compliance with relevant legislation and technical reporting standards and in accordance with the Board’s missions, policies, and Catholic values.

Responsibilities and Duties

1. System Administration

- Manage the implementation, operation, and maintenance of the Board’s network data communications infrastructure and the servers (onsite & cloud) that house business applications

- Manage all system patches and updates as it relates to network and system infrastructure

- Oversee backup and disaster recovery processes

- Maintain fluency in Windows Server technologies including Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Hyper‑V, Clustering, ADFS, and group/security policies

- Manage Office 365 Infrastructure and data

2. Security and Data Protection (Backup for Security Administrator)

- Design and implement security solutions to protect the Board’s network and system infrastructure and business data

- Install and configure firewalls

- Install and configure remote access servers

3. Network and Telecommunications

- Configure and maintain network devices such as switches, routers and wireless access points.

- Troubleshoot LAN and WAN connectivity and performance issues

- Manage and support the Voice over IP telephone system

- Manage and support school intercoms and paging systems

4. Research, Design, Documentation

- Research, design, and recommend to the Manager of Information Technology and IT Supervisor the technology solutions (onsite/cloud) needed to address business requirements and maintain optimal performance of the Board’s systems and networks infrastructure.

- Design, implement and maintain a cloud‑based solution for board email and file services (Office 365, AWS, Google).

- Review and compare infrastructure solutions gear (e.g. firewalls; switches; phone systems, etc.) and provide cost analysis, technical reviews, and recommendations for all Board stakeholders, as a backup for the Security Administrator

- Create documentation on setup, configuration and procedures.

- Maintain professionalism through continuous learning on new technologies and industry standards

- All other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

- Post‑secondary degree in Computer Science.

- Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in the delivery of information technology services is required.

- Prior experience within the public sector is preferred.

- Capability of providing Level II technical support.

- A strong knowledge of SQL and secure database practices.

- Experience with Windows Server technologies including Azure, Active Directory, LDAP, scripting, and group/security policies.

- Proficient with a variety of programming languages (PowerShell).

- Knowledge of a broad range of information technologies including, but not limited to software applications, computer networks, operating systems, database systems, and the configuration/maintenance of computer systems.

- Ability to adapt to new technologies and use them to improve current infrastructure.

- High level computer skills, including advanced Excel and Word in Microsoft Office, broad spectrum of technical hardware and software, Google programs and electronic databases.

- Must demonstrate discretion in dealing with sensitive/confidential matters and exhibit a high level of confidentiality.

- Excellent time management, organizational, and problem‑solving skills with ability to multitask and work independently.

- Effective oral and written communication skills.

- Excellent interpersonal skills.

- Strong attention to details.

- Ability to meet strict deadlines.

- Ability to lead a team through standard projects.

- Ability to work effectively under pressure and stress and adapt to changing priorities.

Working Conditions

- Works in an office environment.

- Regular exposure to on‑call requirements.

- Occasional travel may be required to schools within the city.

- May be required to work more than 35 hours a week to fulfil responsibilities in a timely manner.
