Job Description
Join our dynamic municipal Planning Department as a Student Planner You'll play an important role in supporting a wide range of planning functions, from development planning, long-range policy planning to community engagement. Your contributions will help shape the future of Newmarket, build connections at the Town and be part of an engaging and friendly team.
Reporting through the Manager, Planning Services and under the direction of the Senior Planners, the Student Planner will be responsible for assisting with a full range of planning functions related to the municipal planning department's jurisdiction and responsibilities, including researching and preparing reports, and providing general operational support to the department's functioning, including computer applications and technical support to the staff.
Job Requirements
- Formal academic training in planning or related studies at a University/Community College.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Demonstrated research skills to undertake short term research projects, and support the preparation of planning reports (e.g. discussion papers, memorandums) and correspondence.
- Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail, work with a high degree of accuracy and to complete work within defined timelines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to write detailed reports and speak/present information to other departments, residents and clients regarding Planning matters.
- Must be customer service oriented and use tact and diplomacy to deal courteously and effectively with the public.
- Experience with design-related tools such as Canva, Adobe Illustrator, is an asset.
