Job Summary

The Generation Electrical & Controls Engineering Services team within Engineering and Construction is seeking one (1) Engineer, Electrical & Controls Engineering (Nuclear).

This role involves support for the development of preliminary, conceptual and detailed design related to Electrical, Instrumentation and control systems for capital projects of existing and new power plants, including Small Modular Reactor (SMR).

The Engineer, Electrical & Controls Engineering (Nuclear) is accountable to research, develop and implement tasks, methodologies and practices for the corporation.

As a member of SaskPower's management team, this position is responsible for assisting with and/or preparing technical studies, business cases, designs, specifications, tender evaluations, and equipment and construction drawings.

This position will prepare project plans, costs, and schedules and provide contract management and project coordination services; ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Preparing design documents, requirements, reports, technical specifications, calculations, and contract documents.
  2. Provide review and acceptance of analysis, design, and specification prepared by consultants.
  3. Working with design teams in a multidiscipline environment on projects collaboratively to produce design deliverables with the appropriate level of detail.
  4. Learn and become familiar with assigned technical tasks, methodologies and practices.
  5. Provide assistance and prepare project plans and monitor project costs and schedules.
  6. Provide technical assistance for construction, commissioning and operations.
  7. Perform technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for project business cases, and make recommendations on courses of action.
  8. Prepare project plans, monitor costs and schedules and initiate corrective action as appropriate.
  9. Provide direction for construction and commissioning projects and initiatives.
  10. Develop criteria, guidelines, standards and new practices based upon codes, technologies and methodologies.
  11. Provide direction to technologists, technicians, consultants and management staff.
  12. Provide direction to staff, consultants and other external technical agencies as required.
  13. Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, specializing in Electrical Engineering.
  2. Professional Engineering Designation P.Eng.
  3. Membership in or eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APEGS).
  4. A minimum of five (5) relevant experience in the areas of Industrial Electrical Systems, Distributed Control Systems and Instrument Systems.
  5. Previous experience working in nuclear industry would be considered an asset.
  6. Experienced in a combination of the following engineering tasks: planning, designing, constructing, operating, commissioning of facilities, management, and coordination of technical aspects of contracts and/or technical coordination of highly complex projects.
  7. Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism.
  8. Ability to work and manage in a changing environment.
  9. Use excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  10. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  11. Excellent facilitation, project management and decision-making skills.
  12. Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation and teamwork.
  13. Demonstrated skill in SaskPower's Competencies.
  14. Must have a continuing record of professional development.

A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.
