Job Title: Senior Legal Counsel, Employment Law

The Senior Legal Counsel reports to the Vice President and Associate General Counsel, providing expert and high-quality legal advice on all employment matters to Scotiabank. This role ensures business results are met in accordance with legislative guidelines and corporate governance.

Responsibilities:
  1. Manage civil litigation, conduct investigations, and contribute to the overall success of the Legal Department in Canada.
  2. Represent Scotiabank's interests at hearings, mediations, and civil proceedings.
  3. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal business units.
  4. Understand Scotiabank's risk appetite in day-to-day activities.
  5. Pursue effective operations while ensuring adherence to business controls and risk management frameworks.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from a recognized law school.
  • At least 8 years of private practice or in-house experience specializing in Employment Law.
  • Membership in the law society of one of the provinces of Canada.
  • Experience providing domestic support to the Global HR team.
  • Strong research and legal analysis skills.
Language Skills:

English, French, and/or Spanish language skills are an asset.
