Position Overview

Our client is a leading Canadian commercial leasing and financing company. Currently, they are seeking an experienced Litigation Lawyer to join their growing legal team in a leadership role. Reporting directly to the Chief Legal and Compliance Officer, the Senior Legal Counsel will predominantly be litigation-centric, the successful candidate may also be called upon from time-to-time to provide general legal advisory and research services to the overall business.

Role Responsibilities

  • Hands-on, commercial litigation dealing with, among other things, breach of contract, property recovery, PPSA and other asset priority disputes, insurance and insolvency matters.
  • Strong understanding of creditor rights and secured transactions being preferred.
  • Be able to communicate effectively up and down the business and manage the Firm's network of external counsel across Canada.
  • Provide general legal advisory to the business and assist with general corporate matters, including document drafting and review.

Desired Qualifications

  • 5-9 years of sound litigation experience.
  • Called to the Ontario Bar and be practicing as a lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Goal-oriented, enthusiastic, imaginative, and dedicated. Having an innate desire to win.
  • Bilingualism in French and English with some knowledge of Quebec law, while not required, would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrates superb skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
  • Strong attention to detail and work effectively in a high-pressure environment.
  • Skilled in managing a heavy workload and multiple ongoing endeavors.
