Wallack’s is hiring a Retail & Framing Experience Coordinator to lead the daily operations of our art supply store and custom framing service. You’ll be the front-line driver of store atmosphere, merchandising, customer service, and framing consultations — ensuring our space is always inspiring, professional, and running like clockwork.

Founded in 1936, Wallack’s has been at the heart of Ottawa’s creative community for nearly 90 years. Our flagship location at 305 Bank Street brings together high-quality art supplies, expert custom framing, and a fine art gallery — all under one roof.

We serve artists, students, designers, and collectors with care, creativity, and commitment. Through workshops, education, and community events, we inspire creativity at every stage of the journey.

What You’ll Do

- Own the look and feel of the store — from music and signage to displays and product flow

- Lead daily checklists, manage the till routine, and uphold operational excellence

- Support and delegate to part-time staff to keep the floor clean, stocked, and focused

- Deliver excellent customer service in-store and through phone/email

- Run framing consultations: measurements, material advice, design guidance

- Ensure the consultation area is clean, professional, and brand-aligned

- Support cross-department efforts — events, demos, promotions

Requirements & Qualifications

Education

- High school diploma or equivalent required

- Post‑secondary art, design, or illustration courses are a plus

Experience

- 2+ years in retail, customer service, or hospitality preferred

- Custom framing experience strongly preferred

- Background in art supplies, merchandising, or interior design is a bonus

Skills & Competencies

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills — clear, confident, and kind

- Leadership and follow‑through — able to delegate and hold a team to task

- High attention to detail — in displays, space, product grouping, and service

- Comfort using POS, email tools, inventory systems

- Self‑directed and energized by improving the space and team performance

- Aesthetic awareness — understands balance, style, and flow

Physical Requirements

- Stand for long periods (up to 8 hours/day)

- Lift and move up to 45 lbs

- Reach, bend, climb ladders and stairs

- Assist with signage and fixture changes as needed

Availability

- Willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

- Must be available during peak periods:

- Back to School (Aug 15 – Sept 30)

- Holiday Season (Nov 1 – Jan 15)

- Black Friday Weekend

Language

- Fluent in English (spoken & written)

- French is an asset
