The Role
Neo Financial is looking for a full-time Senior Risk Specialist to join our team in Calgary. Our risk & compliance team navigates through a fast-paced environment and knows how to switch gears to adapt to any scenario. We strive to make things better, simpler and stronger. Make your mark by addressing the dynamic and ever changing landscape of compliance, alongside some of Canada's most successful leaders and tech minds.
What you'll be doing:
- Drive initiatives to strengthen Neo's operational risk framework, including scenario analysis and risk control self-assessments (RCSA).
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across business units, identifying key operational, financial, and compliance risks.
- Develop, implement, and maintain controls to mitigate identified risks within Neo's risk tolerance thresholds.
- Implement business and IT control frameworks and guidelines in high-growth environments.
- Establish and maintain a framework for regular risk monitoring and reporting.
- Prepare detailed risk reports and dashboards for senior management, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
- Develop and maintain risk policies, procedures, and control frameworks, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with business units to ensure risk considerations are integrated into strategic decisions.
- Champion risk awareness and contribute to building a strong risk culture across the organization.
- Support internal and external audits by ensuring all required documentation is complete and accurate.
Who we are looking for:
- Minimum of 5+ years in risk management, operational risk, payment services or related roles within the financial services industry.
- Deep understanding of risk management frameworks (e.g., COSO, ISO, or OSFI guidelines).
- Familiarity with relevant regulations, including RPAA, OSFI B-10, PCI DSS, PCMLTFA, and PIPEDA.
- Experience with GRC tools and systems (e.g., Resolver) for monitoring and reporting.
- Professional designations such as CRM, CRISC, CISA, or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and trends.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or G Suite; familiarity with risk management software is a plus.
- Proactive and adaptable, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results under tight deadlines.
Working at Neo:
The people who thrive at Neo are resourceful, growth-oriented, and driven to win. We hold ourselves to high standards because we're on a mission that matters: to build a more rewarding financial future for all Canadians. As individuals and as a team, we constantly challenge ourselves and each other to do our best work for our customers. Our commitment to customer success drives everything we do, from building intuitive products to providing exceptional support at every step of their journey. If this resonates with you, keep reading.
We trust, respect, and support each other. This means honest conversations, constructive input, and continuous support. You'll be surrounded by people who push you to be your best. We primarily collaborate in person across our Calgary, Winnipeg, and Toronto offices. As we evolve rapidly, we're looking for change-makers who thrive on challenge—people who would rather blaze a trail through uncertainty than follow a well-paved path.
All team members have a stake in Neo's success and earn meaningful equity through stock options. This ownership mindset is at the heart of everything we do — when Neo grows, we all grow. If you've heard that Neo employees work hard, it's true. We hold ourselves accountable for delivering on our commitments to our customers, partners, and each other. Working at Neo means taking ownership of your work and driving results, knowing that your contributions directly impact the company's success.
Apply with us:
We believe in equal opportunity and are committed to creating an inclusive climate where everyone can thrive. Customers trust us with their finances, so successful candidates for this position will be required to undergo a security screening, including a criminal records check and a credit check.
