Senior Building Surveyor

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Building Surveyor to join our team in a full-time permanent role.
About the role
As the Senior Building Surveyor - Residential Processing, you will support the Team leader - Residential Processing in leading the day‑to‑day delivery of the building services. This will include, but is not limited to, building consent processing, ensuring daily operational workflows are effective, and that the quality manual and SOP are consistently applied.
You will also be responsible for:
- Processing, analysing, and making decisions to grant or refuse various types of applications (both residential and commercial) under the Building Act.
- Providing technical support, on‑the‑job training and mentoring to team members.
- Supervising and documenting the supervision of Building Surveyors working outside their current competency.
- Ensuring all sign‑offs and records required by the quality system are completed in a timely manner to support the team and their development.
- Making realistic and sound decisions based on consideration of all the facts and alternatives available to manage risks.
- Seeking relevant information and drawing sound inferences from that information to make risk‑based decisions.
About you
The successful candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience in the Building Industry, preferably across a wide range of building projects. You will be able to understand the Buildings Act and make appropriate technical decisions regarding the building code.
As the Senior Building Surveyor Residential Processing you will have:
- The ability and willingness to share technical knowledge, experience and learnings in a manner that anyone can understand.
- Willingness to make appropriate decisions confidently and take responsibility for them, while recognising the limits of your knowledge and when to seek assistance from the appropriate source(s).
- Qualification in alignment with building reg 18 and current R3 competency level and ability to maintain it.
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent time‑management skills.
- Digital literacy and adaptability to new systems.
- Current New Zealand drivers’ licence.
