POLE LOADING ANALYSIS (PLA) SPECIALIST
Build safe, buildable, construction-ready make-ready solutions—at scale.
Why this role
Encepta is growing our Pole Loading Analysis (PLA) team to meet increasing demand. This role is a great fit if you enjoy real-world problem‑solving, working with field‑derived inputs, and producing clean, defensible analysis packages. We’re open to intermediate candidates who can contribute quickly, entry‑level candidates with the right mindset, and senior candidates—including those interested in part‑time work with coaching/mentorship focus.
What you’ll do
Your work will be primarily production (about 80%), with some time dedicated to quality and process improvement (about 20%). You will:
- Complete pole loading analyses and make‑ready solutions for joint‑use attachments (telecom and utility environments)
- Build accurate models from upstream inputs (IKE Office outputs, point clouds/measurements, photos, spans, attachments, and client standards)
- Identify overloaded or non‑compliant conditions and recommend practical, buildable make‑ready solutions
- Produce clear documentation and construction‑ready notes/packages so downstream teams can act quickly
- Participate in peer review and QA/QC; support escalation to P.Eng review when required
- Provide feedback to field teams on input quality and what’s needed to reduce rework
- Contribute to improving templates, checklists, and workflow to increase throughput while protecting quality
Tools you’ll use
- QuickPole (strongly preferred; primary for Alberta work)
- SPIDAcalc (asset)
- PLS-CADD (nice‑to‑have)
- Familiarity with ArcGIS / Google Earth / CAD basics is an asset
What success looks like (first 90 days)
- You can complete straightforward PLA files with consistent assumptions, clean documentation, and minimal rework
- You quickly spot missing/incorrect inputs and communicate what’s needed to resolve them
- You follow established processes and quality standards consistently
- You build strong working relationships with peers, reviewers, and project leads through clear, proactive communication
What we’re looking for
We can train the tools—what matters most is how you think and how you work.
Delivery & mindset
- Strong critical thinker who enjoys practical problem‑solving
- Detail‑oriented and consistent—follows the process and documents clearly
- Comfortable with extended screen time and structured technical work
- Fast learner who asks good questions and adapts quickly
- Collaborative and proactive communicator
Experience & education (flexible)
We’re open to candidates on a Technician/Technologist track or an Engineer/EIT track. Direct PLA experience is an asset but not required for the right person.
Strongly preferred
- Hands‑on experience producing pole loading / make‑ready outputs in QuickPole
Assets
- Experience with SPIDAcalc and/or exposure to PLS-CADD
- Familiarity with joint‑use programs and working within utility/telecom standards
- Understanding of field collection workflows (even if you’re not collecting the data yourself)
- Basic CAD/GIS comfort (e.g., ArcGIS navigation)
What’s in it for you
- High‑impact work tied directly to safe, compliant, buildable infrastructure
- A team that values curiosity, quality, and continuous improvement
- Hybrid flexibility and strong collaboration across BC/AB teams
- Real opportunity to grow your technical scope and career direction as our PLA practice scales
