ESG Clinical Manager
Mohawk Medbuy Corporation (MMC) is a national, not-for-profit, shared services organization that supports hundreds of health care providers across Canada, as well as child welfare agencies and other public sector organizations. MMC provides value-driven contracting and procurement solutions for medical/surgical supplies, pharmaceutical products, local sourcing, capital (equipment, FF&E and redevelopment) and nutrition solutions. Other services include data analytics, in-hospital support, warehousing/logistics, technology, procure-to-pay, and accounts payable.
With an emerging focus on sustainability and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, MMC is actively supporting the creation of a resilient value chain that incorporates environmental, social and governance best practices. Based in Burlington, ON, the organization also has offices in Toronto, Thunder Bay, Kingston, Brantford, London and Chatham, and a distribution centre in Oakville.
We are currently recruiting for an ESG Clinical Manager to support our Pharmacy, Clinical Services & Innovation team.
Position Overview
As a key member of the Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) and Clinical Services & Quality Assurance teams, the ESG Clinical Manager supports both the development and management of MMC’s ESG clinical program as well as Clinical Services & Quality Assurance activities.
The ideal candidate for this role will be a dynamic individual with a clinical background as a Registered Nurse who displays a passion for sustainability and has strong experience delivering projects of change and transformation, ideally related to sustainability, though not mandatory.
The ESG Clinical Manager will engage with and support Clinicians within MMC’s Membership on sustainability goals and practices, helping Members advance ESG without compromising the quality of patient care. The ESG Clinical Manager will be a key driver of growth of MMC’s ESG Clinical Program and will be responsible for enabling and enhancing ESG collaboration with Clinical leaders within our Membership, including but not limited to surgeons, physicians, nurses, and other clinical health professionals. This role ensures the voice of Clinicians is heard by directly involving Members in the vetting and sourcing process across the continuum of care, with a focus on the assessment of suppliers’ products and services through the ESG Clinical Program, as well as Clinical Services & Quality Assurance processes.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical ESG Program
Program Management & Governance Support
- Lead the management of MMC’s ESG Clinical Committee, including:
- Launching a collaborative forum for ESG-focused clinicians
- Managing all presentations, documentation, and project management related to Committee working group(s)
- Ensuring a strong clinical ESG lens across Member initiatives
- Enabling frontline ESG ideas to move through appropriate action channels
- Facilitating collaboration with other MMC ESG Councils and Committees
- Advancing evidence-based ESG practices
- Supporting Members with ESG clinical initiatives
- Developing metrics to monitor Program success
- Implementing improvement opportunities within the ESG Clinical Program
- Lead and drive further embedding of ESG into MMC’s clinical processes and practices
- Establish standardization of ESG clinical processes as required
- Identify and manage ESG change management opportunities internally and for Members
Clinical Integration & Practice Advancement
- Engage the Clinical Expert Group (CEG) and Communities of Practice to identify:
- Procedural changes
- Medical trends impacting patient care and product usage related to sustainability
- Lead the development of “green substitutes” for clinical products
- Support review of ESG innovation opportunities from a clinical perspective
- Vet sustainable innovation products and services for clinical appropriateness
Supplier, Market & External Engagement
- Collaborate with the ESG Manager of Supplier Strategy to engage the supplier community on ESG-aligned clinical products and program initiatives
- Develop a Clinical ESG Industry strategy and coordinate with relevant Associations, Health Authorities and External stakeholders to advance sustainability and ESG standards
- Remain current on Clinical ESG advancements, networking with peers for benchmarking, partnerships and business opportunities, best practices and problem-solving
ESG Criteria, Evaluation & Sourcing Support
- Support development of ESG Clinical criteria, including:
- Weighting & evaluation
- Review of the ESG Clinical component of RFPs
- Management of the Clinical component of ESG in Pilot RFPs
- Support ESG team initiatives to drive formal ESG program adoption
- Develop clinical ESG training for MMC staff, Members, and suppliers
- Support Members with Clinical ESG-focused requests and initiatives
Knowledge Management, Communications & Reporting
- Manage Clinical ESG content on MMC’s ESG Member Portal and internal MMC Compass site
- Prepare various business documentation and communication, including presentations, proposals, briefing notes, business cases and supporting communication and social media content for Clinical ESG Program activities
Quality Assurance Program
Supply Chain Disruption Management
The Clinical Services & Quality Assurance Manager will utilize clinical expertise and critical thinking to identify solutions and provide recommendations in the supply chain disruption management process. By working with MMC Members, suppliers, vendors, distributors, and internal departments the Manager will improve efficiency, communication, and timeliness of supplies. This key area will support member organizations by finding alternative sources of clinically acceptable supplies when disruptions occur. The role will also assist in seeking to proactively decrease supply disruptions and prevent impact to patient care.
The role will work closely with MMC’s Industry leading MitigAID Program, including maintenance and development of the weekly MitigAID report. The Clinical Services & Quality Assurance Manager will also support MMC’s warehouse customers. The role will also engage with vendors, members, and external/government partners pertaining to high-impact supply disruptions, as required.
Sourcing Initiatives / RFP Support
Provide professional clinical expertise and leadership throughout the Request for Proposal (RFP) Sourcing process. This includes Integration of clinical research and best practices into the RFP process, the creation of scoring specifications and requirements, and member engagement through Clinical Expert Groups (CEGs) and vendor education sessions.
MMC Quality Assurance Program
Support quality assurance work for external/government partners, as required.
Member Engagement
The Clinical Services & Quality Assurance Manager provides professional clinical expertise and leadership in the management of new and existing member relationships. The Manager will actively engage in member and MMC initiatives to ensure the voice of the clinician is present.
Other Responsibilities
- Support training and mentorship of new team members, as required.
- Provide coverage for Director, as required.
- Additional professional tasks at the request of the Director
- Support the Innovation and Indigenous LaunchPad on product and Vendor evaluation.
- Support the Director in ad hoc Member meetings and Clinical Councils
Qualifications and Skills
Education, Training, and Experience
Mandatory
- Post secondary degree
- Registered Nurse with current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario or Equivalent.
- 6+ years healthcare sector experience and 3+ years relevant Perioperative or other Acute Care clinical experience
- 1+ years of experience leading and/or managing sustainability efforts at a hospital or health care system level.
- Demonstrated project management/ leadership skills with an aptitude for establishing credibility with clinicians and other relevant stakeholders in relation to large change management initiatives (ESG-relevant experience preferred).
- Experience leading and presenting to a group of Clinicians and managing associated clinical working groups to drive progress on initiatives.
- Excellent presentation, business writing, business communication, and collaboration skills (active listening, verbal, and written).
- Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office Suite
- Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt.
- Demonstrated ability to compile relevant research, conduct a review and analysis of said research and provide an executive summary of findings. appropriate to identified receiving audience i.e. Clinical and non-clinical.
- Ability to be self-directed, results oriented with demonstrated attention to detail.
- Solid commitment to customer service and member support
- Knowledge of basic principles of contract law.
- Knowledge of Broader Public Sector (BPS)
- Experience and ability to work with a team as well as independently.
- Knowledgeable in procurement systems and operational processes, such as contracting, (e)sourcing, to support supply chains.
Preferred
- Business-minded with knowledge of Health care budgeting and value proposition approaches.
Travel
- Ability to travel to Mohawk Medbuy offices if required.

MMC is a Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) employer offering a comprehensive benefits package and flexible remote work options. The targeted hiring range of this role is $95,821 - $112,305 dependent on experience. This job posting is for an existing vacancy.
