Industrial Hygiene (IH) plays a crucial role in ensuring that our operations remain safe for our employees. As the Industrial Hygienist within our Environmental, Health and Safety team your goal will be to work with a dynamic and cross functional team to provide Industrial Hygiene services to a refinery with diverse work groups. You will support the development and implementation of programs that focus on reducing health risks of the refinery workforce. You will be required to evaluate exposure to hazardous substances in the workplace and apply different equipment and technology to conduct exposure monitoring and area surveys. Your success in this role will offer you an opportunity to strengthen your communication and collaboration skills while working with a multidisciplinary team for implementation of exposure control projects.**What We offer:*** **Work Environment -** Work and grow within Canada’s largest Refinery, with strong safety culture, access to a fitness facility, an onsite medical team, and a café* **Competitive Compensation -** Including an annual bonus plan and pension plan* **Flexible Benefits Plan –** In effect from day one and offers three levels of coverage to select from to meet your unique, personal needs* **Paid Vacation -** Plus an annual option to purchase additional vacation, too* **Wellness Support –** With an annual wellness allowance, paid personal care days and a 24/7 Employee & Family Assistance Program**Your Responsibilities:*** Support the Implementation of Industrial Hygiene Exposure Assessment Strategy* Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) by providing technical expertise and advice on Health Hazards and applicable standards* Support processes, programs, and systems to recognize, evaluate, and control chemical, physical, biological and ergonomic hazards in a large refining facility* Use electronic database to manage Industrial Hygiene data ensuring data quality* Oversee the completion of qualitative and quantitative workplace assessments and recommend corrective actions* Use and maintain a variety of Industrial Hygiene equipment, understand their maintenance and security* Support the development and implementation of exposure control tools, e.g. exposure control projects; industrial ventilation planning, PPE selection and utilization* Provide IH support in non-routine maintenance activity i.e., Turnaround and other major projects* Provide emergency response support in the management of hazardous substance* Support the implementation of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) requirements* Support the implementation of various safety and health awareness programs to promote the wellbeing of the workforce**Your Skills:*** Strong verbal and effective communication skills* Ability to collaborate with others in a team environment* Follow the established performance evaluation process, working closely with your manager to implement SMART goals* Demonstrate collaborative leadership, coach for both technical and professional skillsets, and have an infectious enthusiasm for excellence and safety* Collaborative, able to build credibility and trust quickly with stakeholders* Ability to adjust communication style and speak the language of different stakeholder groups* Proactive when working with stakeholders and able to adapt to different situations* Self-motivated; ability to work independently* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and courage of conviction* Able to balance multiple priorities* Able to work extended hours during annual Turnarounds**Your Experience:*** University education in science, engineering, or equivalent experience* Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene or related health and safety field is an advantage* Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)/Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) designation would be an asset or willingness to obtain* Minimum 3 years of experience in an industrial environment with at least 1 years in a directly related industrial hygiene role* Experience in the oil and gas industry is a definite asset*Irving Oil is committed to supporting a diverse and inclusive work environment.
