Reporting to the Peace River Hydro Partners (PRHP) Director of Health & Safety and the Health & Safety Manager, the Industrial Hygienist is responsible for the development and implementation of industrial hygiene programs, procedures and instructions. Following all safety, legislative or client requirements, the Industrial Hygienist will also review and update the hygiene programs as needed.
**Responsibilities**
- Develop, revise and implement industrial hygiene programs, procedures and instructions.
- Develop and Review of industrial hygiene field protocols and reports.
- Provide technical support to project team.
- Identify gaps between current practices and company programs, procedures, regulatory requirements, industry standards and best practices.
- Develop project-wide IH programs and procedures as assigned by Health & Safety Director.
- Provide program oversight and input to continuous improvement assessments.
- Manage IH subcontractors, supply inventory, purchasing and budgeting for lifecycle of the project.
- Keep abreast of new legislation, trends and regulations. Advise management and employees on regulatory compliance, standards and health hazard and risk assessment and control requirements.
- Ensure that all required documentation is reviewed and stored within the project’s document control system.
- Manage and coordinate the Hygiene program within the Safety Department.
- Oversee and forecast Project planning schedule with Occupational Hygienist and overall H&S Department.
- Participate in incident investigations which involve suspected work exposure, or related health concerns.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent understanding of WorkSafeBC occupational health and safety legislation.
- Extensive knowledge in occupational health and hygiene standards, guidelines and best practices from Canadian Federal and British Columbia (or other provincial) governments.
- Familiar with NIOSH Methods and direct reading instruments.
- Demonstrated ability to write technical reports.
- Good work ethic and dedication to workplace quality, health and safety.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other departments.
- Flexibility to adapt to all situations and varied hours of work.
- Ability to anticipate work needs and follow through with minimum direction.
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and collaborative skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
**Experience/ Qualifications**
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) designation; consideration given to Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist (ROHT).
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene (IH), Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) or related disciplines such as Environmental Science, Chemistry or Biology.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in industrial hygiene, preferably within oil and gas, construction, mining or consulting.
- Experienced in industrial hygiene projects involving confined space entry and rescue, silica and other designated substances, risk assessments, air monitoring, ventilation evaluation, noise assessments and hearing conservation, SDS Management, respiratory protection, indoor air quality, and physical hazards.
- Experienced in developing occupational health and hygiene programs and procedures.
- 5 years construction industry experience in a management/supervisory position.
