About You and this Role
Dow's Path2Zero Program is seeking a Commissioning & Start-up Instrument Technologist. This role will support C&SU for the retrofit project of LP7R in Prentiss and the commissioning of the new Gas Phase Polyethylene plant, LP8, in Fort Saskatchewan. This role will be working closely with LP8/LP7R Instrument C&SU Lead and be part of the LP8/LP7R Commissioning and Start-up team.
Initially, you will primarily support the LP7R project in Prentiss plus C&SU preparation activities for LP8 on site in Fort Saskatchewan (25%). During C&SU execution of LP8, you are expected to be on location in Fort Saskatchewan (travel support will be provided, if needed). After the Project reaches Return to Operations (RTO), this role will become the LP7 Instrument Technologist (DAS) within the TES Organization located in Prentiss.
The responsibilities of this role during Project Construction, Commissioning and Start-up include:
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for instrumentation.
- Support the development of Instrument repair procedures.
- Oversee field Instrument Loop check activities.
- Identify and implement unique solutions to resolve complex commissioning issues.
- Lead and/or support instrumentation troubleshooting activities.
- Coach crafts and operations personnel on instrumentation best practices for installing and operating equipment.
- Support C&SU Lead to execute deliverables.
- Support maintenance representatives during the Spare Part Interchangeability Record (SPIR) review for Instrument MST.
- Work with maintenance representatives and C&SU team for the loop check strategy, work process, and preparation.
- Review Instrument Equipment Protection Plan and participate in field audits throughout the construction phase.
- Ensure LPP 15.2/4 Instrumented Protection Systems (SIS/BPCS) are implemented and in compliance.
- Support the development of the Preventative & Predictive Maintenance (PPM) program for all Instruments.
- Collaborate with Reliability Engineer for Equipment Reliability Strategy implementation.
- Review Instrument spare part and setup stocking quantity aligning with ERS and site requirements.
- Support in setting up C&SU database in Provenience for Instrument.
- Work with Maintenance representatives to set up plans for Instrument C&SU resources, tools, and special tools.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
- Journeyperson Certificate or Red Seal Designation in Instrumentation.
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience (i.e., apprenticeships, journeyman, instrument maintenance, reliability, manufacturing, or related).
- A background in Solution PE or Gas phase Technology is preferred.
- Must be willing and able to meet the travel requirements for this position as outlined in the job description.
- Ability to safely work in a plant environment, meet physical demands, work at elevated heights, and comfortably use PPE and safety equipment (including harnesses with a total maximum weight capacity of 300lbs). Must be familiar with or open to training on proper equipment usage.
- A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in Canada. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including any type of permanent residency support.
