**Research Assistant 1, Preclinical Study Assistant**

BC Cancer - Victoria’s Trev and Joyce Deeley Research Centre is a world-class cancer research facility specializing in cancer immunotherapy. We are seeking a Research Assistant 1 (RA1) to help develop novel therapies that promote anti-cancer immune responses by boosting B cell responses. This RA1 role is a two-year position with the possibility of extension based on grant funding and performance.

Under the supervision of the Project Lead, the successful applicant will play an important role in supporting pre-clinical studies aimed at deciphering and harnessing the role of tumour-infiltrating B cells (TIL-Bs) and their antibodies in the anti-tumour immune response to ovarian cancer. The results will fill key knowledge gaps in the current understanding of TIL-Bs, including identifying their largely unknown target antigens, which may lead to novel therapeutic targets.

The successful applicant will be responsible for planning and performing experiments as needed using some or all the following techniques: molecular cloning (including bacterial transformation and DNA isolation), mammalian cell culture, protein lysate preparation, protein gel electrophoresis, silver staining, western blot, ELISAs, flow cytometry, and plate-based cell cytotoxicity assays. The RA1 will also be responsible for diligent data management, record keeping, general lab maintenance, and other duties as required.

**What you’ll do**
- Performs a variety of established technical procedures according to written protocols.
- Performs experiments by following established laboratory procedures according to written protocols.
- Records results, including computer data entry. Provides input regarding modification of procedures as requested by the Department Head, Principal Investigator, or designate.
- Maintains and stores test materials and products.
- May demonstrate work methods or procedures to less experienced assistants as designated.

Qualifications:

- A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to completion of Grade 12, supplemented by recognized university level science courses; plus one (1) year of recent related experience in a research laboratory.

- Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
