This intake worker will assist individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from, or have been referred, to The Salvation Army. This may involve providing administration.

**HOURS**:

- Temporary position, anticipated 1 year to cover Maternity Leave
- 30 hours per week, 9:00am - 3:30pm Monday to Friday with 30 min unpaid meal break each day.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Conducts initial intake assessments determining immediate needs and supports needed by each client.
- Provide spiritual guidance and uses every opportunity to pray with and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with clients/families, enabling them to become part of the body of Christ.
- Through exercising empathetic care, assists individuals to determine an appropriate and mutually agreed upon goal process; facilitates effective problem-solving behaviours or the clients/families.
- Provide emergency assistance services (i.e. housing, shelter, food, clothing etc.) in accordance with policy.
- Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurate client files and statistical records.
- Receives and/or declines and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations
- Assists in the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the Food Bank
- Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurate client files and statistical reports.
- Networks and refers to The Salvation Army, government and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program, when necessary.
- May organize other seasonal or special programs (i.e. Christmas Hampers, Toy Distribution, Summer Camps, and Food Drives etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:
**Education/Certifications**:

- Current Certification in First Aid/CPR

**Experience**:

- One year but less than three years of prior experience, including, experience working with multi-barriered people, preferably a social service setting

**Required Skills/Knowledge**:

- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Demonstrated ability to work independently

**PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES**:

- The performance of the job requires attentive listening (intake/guidance to clients), and occasional computer work.
- Background check consent
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers abstract
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
