We are looking for a motivated **Settlement Worker **to join our **Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS)** program team

**POSITION FUNCTION**:

- Under the supervision of the** Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) **program Manager, this Settlement Worker in Schools (SWIS) position will assist newcomers with immediate needs for settling in Canada and with ongoing integration into Canadian Society. The primary focus of Settlement Workers in Schools is to facilitate integration and settlement of newcomer families through systematic outreach to newly arrived families and to provide information on available services, needs assessments, cross-cultural education, and community referrals.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Social Work, Counselling or Social Sciences
- Combination of training and related work experience working with newcomers from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Knowledge of the Canadian school system, with an awareness of immigrant and refugee settlement challenges, is needed to assist newcomer parents and students in transitioning into new communities and schools.
- Working knowledge of existing community resources and agencies for newcomers in the lower mainland
- Ability to speak, read and write fluently in English, a secondary language, will be considered an asset
- Workshop and Facilitation skills
- Language skills an asset for Spanish, Ukrainian
- Clear vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check
- Empathetic, respectful, discrete; tactful and patient during stressful situations

**DUTIES OR RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Be familiar with MOSAIC’s vision, mission, strategic plan, and integrated client service delivery approach and remain current with CARD standards and practices.
- Liaise with parents, students, schools, and community agencies
- Facilitate communication between school staff and newcomer families
- Meet with newcomer parents and students, conduct intake and needs assessments, client-centred care plans, follow-ups, and referrals to parents and students
- Organize and facilitate workshops, activities, and opportunities for engagement
- Work collaboratively with other SWIS and MOSAIC team members
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, submit monthly reports identifying the successes and challenges of the program electronically and in a paper format
- Perform related duties as required for the job

**HOURS: Part Time (20 Hours per week)**

**WORKING MONTHS**:September to June (8 weeks lay off during July & August)

**SCHEDULE**: Monday to Friday
- Two days from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

One day from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

(Some weekends, before and after school hours, may be required)
