Health and Safety Advisor

**SCOPE**
Reporting to The Director, Safety and Shared Resources, the primary responsibility of the HSE Advisor is to facilitate relationships with employees and unions with the aim of building a positive, safe and engaged work environment.

With over 50 acres, 500,000 sqft of warehouse space and more than 150 assets across its two businesses (Coast 2000 Terminals and Interhold Distribution), Western IntermodeX facilitates domestic and global trade through rail, water, truck and container modes.
**RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES**
- Collection, tracking and development of health and safety documentation
- Lead in conjunction with operational supervisor’s weekly toolbox talks
- Continually improve upon staff training matrixes, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. Perform audits and deliver corrective action reports to operations on staff compliance with training regulations.
- Lead inspections and investigations. Document witness statements in conjunction with workers.
- Submit WSBC investigation reports and Form 7s.
- Manage WSBC claims, coordinate injury management efforts and continually develop injury management program.
- Prepare and track meeting minutes
- Perform first aid as required and ensure first aid records are secured and retained in accordance with WSBC requirements.
- Develop orientation material and deliver to Manager for review and approval.
- Develop and implement training-related content for Manager review and approval.
- Develop and implement safe work practices, safe job procedures, PPE procedures and emergency response procedures for Manager review and approval.
- Lead the development of risk assessments.
- Lead COR audit preparations.
- Lead Technical BC Rail audit preparations.
- Other duties as assigned
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES**
- A diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
- 3-5 years’ experience working in a health and safety capacity.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced organization and capacity to manage through ambiguity and change.
- Excellent skills and attention to detail, able to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously while delivering on commitments.
- Intermediate user of Microsoft 365 suite of products.
- Strong communicator: able to communicate effectively with clients and coworkers.
- Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Able to perform shift work in a busy environment.
- Able to problem-solving and deliver solutions.
**WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL / SENSORY REQUIREMENTS**
This position will require a regular presence in all the Western IntermodeX facilities, including warehouses, container yards, storage yards and other terminal locations.
