**EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
**Development Services - Building Inspector/Plans Examiner -**
**part-time, temporary - 2 positions**

Reporting to the Chief Building Official, the Building Inspector/Plans Examiner shall review
public buildings within the Township are constructed in accordance and compliance with the
Ontario Building Code, other related provincial regulations and legislation, and related municipal
by-laws. The Building Inspector/Plans Examiner will conduct prescribed inspections in
accordance with the Ontario Building Code and issue orders when required.

**DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Performs the duties of Building Inspector and Plans Examiner Official under the Ontario

Building Code Act including ensuring compliance with the Ontario Building Code. A
thorough working knowledge of applicable legislation including the Ontario Building Code is
required.
- Conducts building inspection and plans examination functions that includes processing

permits, and collects fees, in accordance with the requirements of the Ontario Building Code
and/or other provincial or municipal regulations.
- Maintains detailed records of all inspections and documentation of all occurrences.
- Investigates complaints and recommends corrective action in accordance with the
- requirements of the Ontario Building Code.- Responds to enquiries and provides advice regarding interpretation of the Ontario Building

Code, related provincial regulations and legislation, and related municipal by-laws in a
consistent manner.
- Reports to Chief Building Official when operation problems are identified and make

recommendations for changes or improvements.
- Responds to compliance letters.
- Issues orders, prepares expert opinions, provide expert witness testimony as required.
- Complies with provincial occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and
- procedures.- Maintains confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and
- Protection of Privacy Act.- Deals courteously and effectively with the public, staff, suppliers, contractors, other
- departments and levels of government.- Performs other duties as assigned.

**EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION**:

- Post-secondary education in engineering, architectural technologist or equivalent

combination of education plus minimum 3 years municipal work experience an asset.
- Possess a thorough working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, related provincial

regulations and legislation, and related municipal by-laws.
- Good analytical, problem-solving, organizational, public relations and communication skills.
- Ability to deal effectively with all levels of staff and government, elected officials,
- consultants, builders, contractors, developers, architects, and the general public.- Office, PDF review and editing software, etc.- Successful completion of “General Legal/Process”, and “House” or “Small Buildings” MMAH
- qualification exams required.- Successful completion of Plumbing-House, HVAC-House and any other MMAH qualification
- exams would be an asset.- Able to be qualified as a Certified Building Code Official.
- Class “G” Driver’s License.- $43.44 per hour.
