To be eligible for the SECURE Summer Student Program, you must meet the following requirements:

- Be enrolled in a post-secondary institution and available from May to August.
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada by way of Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Residency, or a valid work permit.
- If you are selected for a role considered safety-sensitive, you will be required to successfully complete a Medical and/or Alcohol and drug test.

**Your Opportunity at SECURE Energy**

As our Summer Student - Laboratory Technician you will be responsible for the research and development of new drilling fluid products, testing procedures and analytical methods, QA/QC evaluations of standard and alternative drilling fluid products, drilling fluid testing and reporting for existing and prospective clients.

This role is based out of the Calgary Tech Centre located in the Foothills Industrial Park in SE Calgary and operates on a full time Monday to Friday schedule.

**The Team**

The summer student will work closely with the existing tech team of approximately 6 scientists on the Drilling side, including interactions with other personnel from Completions, Production Chemicals and Water Treatment.

**A Day in The Life**

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

- Field Level Hazard Assessment for daily tasks; hazard ID, near miss and incident reporting if applicable
- Timesheet recording of project hours
- Lab equipment and lab instrument cleaning and maintenance (daily and monthly tasks)
- Lab work record keeping and organization (lab book entries, spreadsheets, pictures, etc)
- General lab cleaning and tidying
- Reading and reviewing literature papers, documents, SOPs, etc
- Sample login, storage and disposal
- Lab project and QA/QC work
- Data analysis and report writing

**Skills, Experience, & Qualifications**
- Actively enrolled in a science program with a strong laboratory component, such as chemistry, biology, or environmental science.
- Strong lab skills are required.
- Problem-Solving: Analytical thinking to overcome technical challenges.
- Teamwork: Collaborative mindset and the ability to work well with diverse teams.
- Initiative: Self-motivated with a willingness to take on new challenges.
- Time Management: Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and thoroughness in all tasks.
