We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and organized individual to fill the contract position of Laboratory Technician. This full-time, permanent position is located in Calgary, Alberta at the newest and one of the best equipped labs in the industry. This position will focus on drilling fluids testing with many detail-oriented duties to challenge the right candidate, and reports directly to the Manager, Drilling Fluid Laboratory Services.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Laboratory testing of field samples.
  • Making and testing batches of new and existing products.
  • Analytical testing with equipment to include FTIR / NMR / XRD / EDX / PSD.
  • Quality control testing of raw materials and products.
  • Concise reporting of results as well as managing database where results are stored.
  • Support the research and development of new products.
  • Technical support for our full product range.
  • Development of new lab processes and troubleshooting of existing procedures.
  • Design and build new test apparatuses.
  • Maintenance of laboratory instruments.
  • Other duties as required.


Necessary qualifications:

  • Diploma in Chemical Technology or B.Sc. in Chemistry. Petrochemical or related disciplines would be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar position is preferred.


Required skillset:

  • Confidence and capability in operating assorted analytical equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to commission laboratory equipment as well as develop and troubleshoot test methods.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, both for internal and client correspondences.
  • High degree of computer literacy and ability to quickly master new types of computer software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong statistical analytical skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt.
