**Debate Camp Director**

**Wage**: $20/Hour

**Location**: Saskatoon

**Number of Positions**: 1

**Length of employment**:9 weeks, June 24 to August 26, 2024, Some flexibility in start and end dates.

**Employment Terms**: 30 to 40 hours per week for 9 weeks for a total of 270 hours.

**Experience**: 1-3 years of camp leadership experience or a comparative leadership role.

Passionate about empowering young people? Enjoy debate and public speaking SEDA is looking for you to lead our speech and debate camp for young people grades 5 - 10.  You will be responsible for providing a fun and educational experience for all participants and overseeing the other camp staff.

**About SEDA**:
The Saskatchewan Elocution and Debate Association’s vision is a world where youth have the confidence and skills to engage in reasoned discourse on complex and difficult issues. Our mission is to advance the speech arts among Saskatchewan youth by providing elocution and debate programs and resources. SEDA hosts competitive tournaments, helps start speech and debate clubs, provides resources to teachers and coaches, and teaches debate and speech skills to students in grades 5-12.

**Responsibilities and Duties**
- Participate in the summer camp instructor hiring process
- Create camp curriculum
- Plan and lead training sessions for camp instructors
- Manage, support, and supervise camp instructors
- Maintain positive, professional, and constructive relationship with all staff members & campers
- Maintain a safe camp environment
- Lead and facilitate camp
- Teach public speaking and debate skills
- Provide an enjoyable and educational experience for all participants
- Participate in feedback and reporting processes

The Camp Director will work from our Saskatoon office and the camp venue (University of Saskatchewan)

**Qualifications and Skills**
- Minimum grade 12 education, some post-secondary education preferred
- 1-3 years of camp leadership experience or a comparative leadership role with children.
- Team player with leadership skills/experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Reliable and organized
- Must have access to a laptop/computer/tablet with reliable internet.
- First Aid/CPR certification considered an asset
- Speech or debate experience strongly preferred
- Successful criminal record and vulnerable sector check

This job is funded in part though the Canada Summer Jobs Program. To be eligible, applicants must:

- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations.

Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents. International students are not eligible participants.

**Job Type**: Seasonal
Contract length: 9 weeks

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 - 40 per week

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
