Under the direction of the Director, Planning & Building Services, the Planning Services Assistant is responsible for administrative and operational support to the Director, Planning & Building Services, Manager, Planning Services and Planning Services staff in contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of Planning Services as a whole. Responsibilities include document preparation; responding to general planning inquiries; performing general office duties including distributing mail; maintaining filing system; co-ordination of meetings, appointments. etc.; and clerical support for subdivision approvals, compliance letters, public notice/postings and statutory circulations.

Job Requirements
- Post secondary education in a related field of study such as Office/Business Administration, and a thorough working knowledge of general administrative functions or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working in a Planning Services Department an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of municipal functions in land use planning, statutory procedures, Official Plans, zoning bylaws, subdivision and site plans.
- Good interpersonal, organization, public relations and administrative skills, with the ability to respect confidentiality. Basic knowledge of accounting.
- Strong problem solving skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Strong verbal, written communication skills and customer service orientation with ability to deal with sensitive issues.
- A team-oriented person with demonstrated initiative and research skills. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook). Working knowledge of Accela an asset.
- Availability to attend Committee meetings, including evening meetings as required in the absence of the Committee Secretary or staff liaison.
- Ability to assist in the preparation of concise/professional reports and presentations.
- Proven ability to work effectively and confidentially with all levels of management, members of Council and the public.
