POSITION TITLE**:Communications Lead**

SUPERVISOR: Senior Director, Finance & Quality Assurance

**Background**:
**Position Summary**:
The Communications Lead is an integral part of the team supporting a range of communication and marketing activities. The Communication Lead develops and advises on creative communications planning for Toronto Centre in areas such as strategic marketing, programming promotion, branding, social media, web strategies, graphics, and other projects.

The Communications Lead reports to the Senior Director, Finance & Quality Assurance and works closely with the CEO and the senior management team and programming staff. The Communications Lead also interacts with the Board of Directors and funders.

**Essential Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Provides input into and implement Toronto Centre’s marketing and communications
- Manages the relationship with the Graphics Firm to ensure all requirements and deadlines are clearly communicated and content is received
- Leads and participates in writing, editing, and posting announcements, news updates and banners on Toronto Centre website
- Plans, leads, and coordinates the use of social media, innovative marketing content strategies, marketing tools, banner ads and multi-media campaigns to target audiences and promote Toronto Centre’s programming
- Leads the development of marketing and promotional materials
- Oversees the communications calendar
- Prepares presentations on behalf of the organization
- Writes the quarterly newsletter
- Oversees distribution of quarterly e-newsletter and preparation of programming specific communications and promotional material
- Conveys clear, concise communications with appropriate tone, messaging, and content
- Leads the coordination of Toronto Centre’s Annual Report project
- Provides directions to Communications Coordinator and Graphic Designer on tasks and projects
- Oversees webinars and podcasts
- Oversees the website content and all social media sites updated with current information
- Monitors website and social media and assesses and advises on web analytics
- Prepares press releases, media advisories and related notices
- Prepares funders’ reports and assist with writing grant proposals
- Assists with the preparation of Board packages
- Complies with all TC policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Performs other duties as requested.

**Qualifications**:

- University undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Affairs, or related field
- 2-3 years of communications experience
- Completion of or enrolment in an editorial skills program is an asset.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Excellent communication and writing skills (written and spoken)
- Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, Access, Adobe InDesign, Zoom, Joomla and Hootsuite
- Strong organizational and time management skills to coordinate projects and tasks
- Demonstrated understanding of clear communication (plain language) principles
- Ability to perform multiple tasks to meet concurrent deadlines
- Adaptable to deal with changing priorities
- Enthusiastically step up to solve day to day problems
- Detail orientated
- Exposure to or interest in international development
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Always willing to work with and support the entire Toronto Centre team
- Professionally represent Toronto Centre in all situations
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Toronto Centre works across multiple time zones, flexibility is required
- Professionally represent Toronto Centre in all situations
- Flexibility is required to meet changing priorities and multiple deadlines
- Ability to travel and to carry communications materials such as event swag and Toronto Centre banner.
