**Development Communications Specialist, Campaign**:
**Primary Purpose**: The Development Communications Specialist, Campaign will provide leadership and support to the development, implementation and evaluation of communication strategies that encourage and promote donor investment in the university’s strategic priorities and advance the university’s reputation and global impact. The specialist contributes to the university-wide fundraising goals and comprehensive campaign through high-quality, donor-centred and strategic communications to internal and external stakeholders locally, nationally and internationally, including existing and prospective donors, alumni of the university, media, government, industry and the general public.

**Nature of Work**: Reporting to the Director, Advancement Communications and working closely with the Vice-President University Relations, this position is a member of the university-wide Strategic Communications team and specializes in development (fundraising) communications as part of the university’s comprehensive campaign. The specialist will provide direct support to the Vice-President University Relations on donor-centred communications and marketing. The specialist works closely and collaboratively with colleagues in University Relations and leads the development of, or advises on, donor communications strategies as part of the university’s fundraising campaigns and initiatives.

**Typical Duties or Accountabilities**:

- Develop and implement communication strategies that supports fundraising, donor stewardship and recognition throughout the comprehensive campaign that are highly personalized, aligned with the campaign and university branding and are focused on impact
- Publicize donations and their impact through appropriate digital and other appropriate formats (e.g. stories, social media, advertising, etc.) and through internal and external channels to ensure effective visibility for donors
- Conceptualize and contribute to campaign-related marketing initiatives
- Lead, plan and implement coordinated communications plans for gift recognition and fundraising, including key messages, gift announcement events, marketing materials, web/digital communications, stories, media releases, speaking notes, and other content as needed
- Plan and produce annual and ongoing reports to donors and to the community that report back on the impact of gifts as part of the comprehensive campaign
- Provide direct support to the Vice-President University Relations for donor communications

**Education**: An undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, fundraising or other related field.

**Experience**: Three to five years of directly related progressive experience in a post-secondary, not-for-profit, or similarly complex environment, ideally in the role of communications supporting fundraising and/or campaign activities; experience and success in developing, implementing and evaluating effective communication strategies using a variety of mediums and channels; experience conceptualizing and overseeing the development of marketing initiatives and design; knowledge of the University of Saskatchewan's culture, issues, goals, and stakeholders would be considered an asset.

**Skills**: Strong leadership and consensus building skills; the demonstrated ability to think and act strategically, responding positively to challenges; excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, and ethics including diplomacy, tact and professionalism; highly motivated and organized; strong customer ethic with the ability to work independently, collaboratively and within a team environment; creativity and an understanding of effective design and promotions; exceptional written communication skills demonstrated through a strong record in a variety of online and print mediums; understanding of, and proven experience in applying, industry best-practices in development communications to achieve results.
