**The opportunity**

**Responsibilities/Key Accountabilities**:
**Individual Responsibilities**:
The Senior Product Owner's primary responsibilities can be divided into three categories and may cross multiple squads. This **may **have direct reports and provides management and career development for one or more Product Owner(s).

**_Voice of the Business, Customer, and End-User (in context of direction from the Experience Strategist) _**
- Responsible for business outcomes in alignment with segment/global priorities for assigned area of the value stream(s)
- Acts as the voice of the business and voice of the customer within the squad(s) to ensure business and end-user satisfaction
- Drives prioritization decisions, in partnership with the business, to enable team to deliver business outcomes
- Maintains a firm understanding of business, customer, and end-user pain points, needs, and preferences
- Maintains a firm understanding of relevant personas and customer journeys in order to advocate for the ideal experience
- Monitors industry, competitive and general business trends to enable strategic planning and delivery of outcomes in alignment with segment priorities
- Works as the “customer proxy” and consistently applies to customer lens to solutions
- Ensures the voice of the customer/stakeholder is prominent and accurate in the definition of user stories

**_Value/Backlog Management _**
- Drives the strategy, planning and delivery of key capabilities aligned to the Value Stream customer journey, including features
- Translation of objectives and strategy to the team for tactical delivery
- Primarily leads the squad(s) in ensuring value creation for the business, customers, and end-users by owning the squad backlog and ensuring that the highest value work is always being executed
- Work with squad(s) to define hypotheses, run experiments (surveys, concept testing, analytics tools, A/B testing), and analyze data to make decisions on user stories that influence the direction of delivery
- Builds and grooms the user story backlog for one or more squads (prioritizing based on value)
- Ensures the backlog is visible, clear and understood by all squad members
- Incorporates feedback from stakeholder demos, interviews, user research, and engineering into the squad backlog
- Accepts the work outputs (i.e. completed user stories) of the squad by ensuring all stories meet the definition of done

**_Squad Alignment & Communication _**
- Provides strategic team leadership in managing delivery of business outcome-focused work
- Brings coaching mindset to agile practices and product content knowledge
- Specify and effectively communicate desired outcomes for current and future capabilities
- Leads or assists in demonstrations of the squad’s outputs (i.e. working software)
- Reviews and contributes to the value stream roadmap
- Drafts the squad’s specific objectives and key results (OKRs) in alignment with those of the value stream

**Shared Responsibilities**:

- Shares accountability with Value Stream Owner, Experience Strategist, and all Product Management roles for addressing customer needs, validating solutions, and improving user experiences
- Collaborates with VSLT, HCD, and Product Management to continually uncover pain points and opportunities in order to ensure the continuous delivery of the highest value outcomes
- Shared accountability with Scrum Lead for delivery of measurable business value
- Shared accountability with Scrum Lead and Delivery Lead to define and continually improve the work intake and prioritization process within the value stream squads
- Shared accountability with Scrum Lead for alignment on release strategy and release content with pertinent stakeholders In instances where there is no Scrum Lead, the Senior Product Owner may assume and/or share certain responsibilities normally associated with the Scrum Lead. These responsibilities may be shared or owned on a rotational basis with other members of the squad.
