The **Ontario Securities Commission (OSC)** is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario’s capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The Commission’s mandate is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in capital markets, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. This mandate is performed through policy, operational, adjudication and enforcement work. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

**What We Do**

The **Enforcement Branch** supports the OSC in delivering fair, vigorous and timely enforcement. The **Enforcement Branch **investigates and litigates breaches of securities laws in Ontario. Staff works closely with other securities regulators, self-regulatory organizations and law-enforcement agencies to enhance initiatives to fight misconduct. A strong enforcement presence assists in protecting investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices and fostering fair and efficient markets.

The **Quasi-Criminal Serious Offences Team (QSOT)** is made up of Enforcement staff who have extensive experience in the investigation and prosecution of criminal and quasi-criminal activity. In targeting fraudulent and recidivist behaviour that harms retail investors, QSOT will focus on taking more Enforcement cases before the courts where jail terms can be ordered against offenders

We are currently recruiting for a **Law Clerk **for QSOT to provide support to all QSOT Staff involved in investigations and prosecutions into allegations of securities law violations both for criminal and quasi-criminal prosecutions. The **Law Clerk** will organize, prepare and oversee disclosure to be provided to accused parties and for use in evidence. This role will provide support to litigation counsel to facilitate motions, hearings, trials, sentencing; appeals and post hearings/trials. In addition, the Law Clerk will manage documents, files and materials to support motions, trials, hearings, appeals and post hearings/trials.

**Required qualifications**:

- Completion of a 2-year Law Clerk Program in a Community College
- Member in good standing with the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (ILCO) or would qualify for ordinary membership
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience with a law office, government agency or other entity in a capacity or function which involves the performance of duties of an administrative or managerial nature under the guidance of a lawyer
- Knowledge and experience of quasi-criminal and criminal disclosure issues
- General knowledge of securities industry, the Ontario Securities Act, the Commodity Futures Act, the Criminal Code and related legislation
- General knowledge of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Freedom of Information Act, Privacy Act, Provincial Offences Act, Business Corporation Act, Bankruptcy Act, Canada and Ontario Evidence Act, Statutory Powers and Procedures Act
- A collaborative, team player adept at working effectively in a dynamic group
- Proactive and constructive problem solver with a solutions-oriented approach
- Excellent organizational, proof reading, and administrative skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Lotus Notes, and e-Discovery tools such as Summation;

**This role is eligible for hybrid work and as per OSC's Hybrid Policy requires a minimum of 3 days/week working from the office at 20 Queen Street West in Toronto.**
