Job Summary

The Project Manager, Education Projects Management Team, provides project leadership in the planning and implementation of complex projects and events under the direction of the Senior Director and the Administrative Director in the Office of the Vice Dean, Education. Engages with senior faculty leadership and broad stakeholders to understand and clarify goals and objectives, participates in the project conception process, manages a number of concurrent projects of varying size and complexity, and assumes responsibility for their successful completion.

The position will support a wide range of projects and often will deal with highly confidential and sensitive material and matters. A high level of integrity is required in maintaining confidentiality and the incumbent must be comfortable working in areas of ambiguity, challenge, and change.

The position will be based at the UBC Vancouver Campus and there may be occasional travel to other sites (e.g., Gordon and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre) to support project activities within the Office of the VDE.

The Office of the Vice Dean, Education is responsible for multiple annual education budgets and for providing critical support and guidance to all educational programs offered within the Faculty of Medicine at all sites across the province of BC: MD Undergraduate Program (in partnership with the Universities of Victoria, Northern BC, and UBC Okanagan), Postgraduate Medical Education, Health Professional Programs, Continuing Professional Development, Faculty Development and all other educational service units that support teaching and education delivery. This position will be required to have regular interaction with various hospitals, health authorities, government agencies, accrediting bodies and partner institutions.

Work Performed
- Designs and manages multiple concurrent projects focused on advancing initiatives, goals and objectives with the Office of the Vice Dean, Education (including education programs and service units).
- Collaborates with faculty and staff leadership and broad stakeholders to conceptualize, plan and implement complex projects and events by determining project management methodology or methodologies that would be most appropriate for the project and identifying change management strategies where appropriate.
- Works creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence.
- Plans projects by defining scope of work and deliverables that will produce the intended outcomes, and by estimating time and resource requirements.
- Manages project and program issues and risks to mitigate impact on deliverables.
- Manages project activities, follows up on action items and deliverables to ensure completion, and keeps projects on track and focused on achieving intended outcomes.
- Manages project transition to operations, closeout, evaluation, and lessons learned activities upon project completion.
- Researches and writes project documentation, including charters, plans, scope statements, schedules, budgets, risk management plans, reports, status updates, and briefing notes, using a variety of formats.
- Engages stakeholders from across units and functions in collaborative project work in a way that values their input and is informed by change management principles and best practices.
