**Course Overview**:
This is an advanced listening and speaking course for academic purposes. The goal of this course is to prepare students for formal listening and speaking activities that they may face in a post-secondary educational setting. Additionally, this course provides the support students who will need to succeed in their first university credit course in English.

**Responsibilities**:

- Course Preparation and Outline in accordance with Program requirements
- Lesson / Lecture preparation
- Attendance Management
- Teaching
- Student Contact
- Participation in placement testing, teacher-student event or activity, staff meetings and graduation ceremony
- Preparation and invigilation of examinations
- Marking and grading
- Other duties as assigned

**Education and Qualifications**:

- Undergraduate degree
- TESL Certificate from a TESL Canada recognized program is required
- Minimum of 800 hours of teaching the following:

- post-secondary level note-taking
- process writing, problem-solution case analysis and graphing
- group presentations
- focused group discussions at advanced level
- evaluation, synthesis, and analysis of academic information
- advanced listening strategies, primarily for lecture classes
- Experience teaching English as an additional or foreign language to adults
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiating, and conflict-resolution skills to deal effectively with a wide variety of situations
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs and issues of a diverse student body
- Varied teaching experience considered an asset (in terms of skill, level, demographic, and location)
- Strong computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with online tools and resources for teaching.
- Knowledge of a language additional to English considered an asset

**An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.**
