**How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team**:
The Field Assistant, Terrestrial Inventories & Monitoring is responsible for assisting in various field monitoring and data collection activities in support of TRCA’s environmental monitoring programs and projects. This position participates in surveying terrestrial vertebrate fauna utilizing environmental monitoring instruments and equipment and following standardized protocols. This position also involves equipment maintenance and care, and environmental data entry. Health and Safety is a requirement of this position.

**Major Responsibilities**:
**Perform the following tasks under supervision**:

- Assist with monitoring and inventory surveys for bats following specific protocols.
- Perform data entry to transfer data from field sheets into spreadsheet or database format
- Use various types of monitoring equipment, including: GPS units; bat acoustic monitoring devices and infrared camera
- Assist with field observations, data recording, and data management.
- Ensure safety in the field (e.g. use of PPE).
- All activities are expected to be performed in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs. All necessary personal protective equipment (will be provided by TRCA) must be used and maintained in good condition.

**What will you need to succeed**:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
- Actively pursuing or possess a post-secondary education in biology, ecology, forestry, environmental science or a related field.
- Valid G Class Driver’s License in good standing and own vehicle (requirement to travel outside of public transit hours).

Experience
- Previous experience related to environmental monitoring and data collection using bat acoustics would be an asset.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions and various times of day (e.g. late evenings)
- Strong interest in the ecology and vertebrate fauna of the Greater Toronto Area. Ability to identify common fauna species found in the Toronto area would be an asset.
- Strong verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team setting.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office software programs, specifically Word and Excel. Experience working with GIS software an asset.
