The Thrift Store **Assistant Manager Customer Service** job is a new position of four days per week possibly working up to 5 days. Workdays Monday through Saturday, with the weekly schedule determined in conjunction with the Operations Manager.  The hours are 8:30 to 4:30. The Job Description is attached.

Reports to the Ladysmith Health Care Auxiliary Operation Manager.

Implements Thrift Store policies and procedures while working in collaboration with the Thrift Store volunteers and employees.

Maintains high standards of quality, neatness, safety and service in the Thrift Store.

Instills a productive, harmonious, and positive atmosphere.

Practices effective communication with customers, volunteers and employees.

Physical Element: moving stock and Inventory, able to lift up to 50 lbs.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Working with Volunteers and Employees (includes Students)**

Establish and maintain an atmosphere of cooperation and harmony with the volunteers, employees and the Executive Board of Directors.  Ensure open lines of communication with all volunteers.

Maintain the volunteer and employee shift schedules and keep current a spare volunteer & employee list.  Ensure all scheduled positions are covered and copies of the spare list are easily available to Thrift Store volunteers and staff.  Arrange for replacements when needed, such as in emergencies and/or illness.

Work with the Membership Director to welcome new volunteers and introduce them to those already working in the Thrift Store. Provide new volunteers with an overall orientation to the Thrift Store, both retail and receiving. Establish a schedule with the new volunteer, introduce them to a training mentor to provide as much training as necessary, including consistent follow-up to ensure that the volunteer can comfortably and effectively carry out her/his duties, and discuss any difficulties with the volunteer.

**Store Operations**

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, open and close the Thrift Store at appropriate times.

Resolve situations with customers, volunteers and employees.

Work collaboratively with those responsible for various product areas in planning and making Thrift Store decisions such as special sales, displays and other promotional events.

Cash out and balance tills at beginning of shift with a Thrift Store Employee; complete debit and bank deposits.

Assist “hands-on” in the Thrift Store or receiving, when necessary. E.g. provide a “rest break” for cashiers or receiving if no one is available.

Ensure that products sold in the Thrift Store align with policy guidelines.  e.g. follow all safety requirements (no sales of bicycle helmets, etc.) as outlined in Industry Guide to Second-hand Products (including Children’s Products)

Manage the ordering and purchasing of Thrift Store supplies.

Carry out or arrange for maintenance and repairs of cash registers, debit machines and office equipment.

**Safety**

Take First Aid courses and maintain certification as required. Train for the use of the defibrillator. Coordinate with Maintenance Manager the upkeep of safety equipment.

Train volunteers and employees on safety with customers in case of emergencies such as earthquake or fire; monitor for safety of display areas; if needed use the security system; post safety information and updates. etc.

Obtain a Criminal Record Check

**Communications**

Establish and maintain an atmosphere of open communication, cooperation and harmony with all volunteers and employees.

Answer phone calls in the Thrift Store and deal with any problem or questions.

Maintain a daily communications log to report on problems, challenging customer situations and safety issues.

Liaise either verbally, or via the communications log, with Maintenance & Assistant Manager on maintenance issues, emergencies, etc., and any other notable positive or negative occurrences during the day.  This log is to be shared between all Managers as a regular daily record and communications method to document and to keep the Operations Manager informed.  Entries are to be initialed after reading by the authorized individuals.  At end of day, the log must be kept in the office safe, or in a secure file.

Any other related duties as mutually agreed upon between the operations manager.
