**Landscape - Horticulture & Maintenance Technician**

We are looking for a reliable Horticulture & Maintenance Technician, with the desire to eventually lead their team(s). Some experience is considered an asset - willingness to learn.

**Location of work**: Vancouver, and surrounding areas

**Job Duties**:Garden Install & Maintenance - Assisting with the following:

- Monitor and maintain good health and presentations of gardens
- Pruning of ornamental trees, shrubs, and hedges, weeding and bed work, plant care, fertilizing, mulching, and soil amendments, lawn care (mowing, weeding, and line trimming), and pest and disease control
- Move and transport materials using shovels, wheelbarrows, carts, dollies, and manual lifting
- Planting and garden renovations when required
- Assist with sourcing and securing plant material well in advance, when needed - high-quality trees, shrubs, hedging, container stock, and any other plant material needs, including international procurement
- Assist in monitoring the quality of plant material and products received
- Assist build strong and effective relationships with nurseries and growers to ensure the best service and prices
- Assist the Horticulture & Maintenance team in the accurate estimation of costs relating to plant material and associated labor for current and prospective projects when needed
- Conduct minor repairs for irrigation and lighting
- Complete timesheets for all crew members
- Ensure that all work activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner
- Clean and maintain hard surfaces, as well as all hardscape and paved areas
- Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment by conducting inspections, lubricating, and cleaning daily
- Maintain standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned trucks, trailers, equipment, job sites, and shop/yard areas
- When required: support landscape installation crews with construction labour (i.e. walls, walkways, driveways, patios, lawns, gardens, etc.)

**Requirements**:

- Must possess a valid BC driver’s license
- Must possess steel toes, rain gear and secateurs
- Must have effective communication skills (both verbal and written) in English
- Must have physical attributes, strong work ethic, and stamina to meet the physically demanding nature of the role - the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly through an entire work shift
- Proven landscape maintenance experience on large, high-end properties
- Ability to work under pressure, while juggling competing demands and meeting the needs of several projects/teams
- Proven sense of urgency and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and tight deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail and focus on quality - with good analytical and problem-solving skills
- A detailed and thorough understanding of plant material, soil types, plant health and nutrition, pest control, irrigation systems, and landscape construction methods
- Highly detailed knowledge of all horticultural matters, plants, and excellent plant identification skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with clients, suppliers, management and staff, and all levels of the business
- High energy and enthusiasm - and happy to work outside in various conditions including heat and humidity, rain, dust, noise, and cold (rain or shine)
- Competent in the safe and responsible use of power tools and equipment
- Must adhere to WorkSafe practices and policies
- Ability to work both independently with little supervision, and as part of a team
- Stable work history with a demonstrated commitment to past employers

**Selection Criteria**:

- 5+ years of experience working in horticulture
- Garden Design or Landscape Design is considered an asset
- Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) applicable Horticulture Education
- Landscape design & sales experience are considered assets
- Horticulture Diploma, Certified Landscape Technician, or working towards Red Seal considered an asset
- Knowledge of horticultural matters, plants, and plant identification skills considered an asset
- Landscape maintenance experience on large, high-end properties is considered an asset
