- As a Construction Inspector, you will work as part of the Parks and Open Spaces team within Infrastructure Services. The Parks Construction Inspector will be responsible for providing day to day site inspections of capital infrastructure work projects being completed by contractors on behalf of The City. Typical projects include park and open space improvements and development, natural area restoration, pathway and hard surface construction, park boulevard construction, and park landscape construction. Primary duties include:

- Carry out day to day inspection of landscape construction projects.
- Check all critical stages of construction and ensure that testing, materials, and construction methods meet specifications.
- Ensure compliance with contract specifications and provide inspection approvals.
- Inspect work for compliance with City, Prime Contractor, Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Review project digital drawings, technical specifications, and scope of work.
- Identify and resolve project problems.
- Maintain ongoing communications with various City business unit project managers, contractors, consultants, landscape architects, and engineers.
- Observe and maintain construction progress reports and photographic records.
- Respond to inquiries about construction projects.
- Act as a liaison with operations and other business units.

**Qualifications**
- A completed 2-year diploma or technical certificate in Horticulture, Landscape Architectural Technology or a closely related field in the landscape construction industry; OR
- A Journeyman Landscape Gardener Certification is required.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience is required.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits, or a Class 5 Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, and no current charges or suspension pending.
- Must be able to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
- Current Intermediate First Aid certification (equivalent to Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level "C", and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)) is required by first day of work.
- Proficiency at technical reviews of digital drawings and knowledge of construction materials, practices, and procedures is essential.
- Knowledge of development processes and guidelines and standard specifications in landscape construction will be considered an asset.
- Applicants should have strong organization and time management skills, a high attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment in decision making.

**Working Conditions**:Regular field work, including work at construction sites and exposure to all types of weather, is required for this position.

**Pre-employment Drug Test**: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
