Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Research and Innovation (AVP-RI), the Research Grants and Contract Officer is a key member of the service-oriented Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) team. The incumbent works collaboratively with the ORI team, as well as with internal and external stakeholders to provide CUE researchers, scholars, and artists (faculty and students) guidance, support, and hands-on end to end (pre and post award) research administration, while adhering to sponsor and CUE policies and associated procedures. This position helps CUE researchers, scholars, and artists navigate the research administration continuum of the grant lifecycle. Furthermore, the incumbent works with other CUE administrative units to ensure that the institution has efficient and straightforward processes in place to effectively manage research funds, whether from an internal or external source.

The Grants and Contracts Officer is also responsible for identifying, promoting, and managing sponsored research grant opportunities. The incumbent promotes best practices of grant facilitation and coordination and maintains current knowledge of the research funding landscape by monitoring resources, working with colleagues in the research administration community at post-secondary institutions, and liaising with sponsors and funding agencies. The Research Grants and Contracts Officer works with the AVP-RI and other ORI team members in the development of key foundational aspects of the ORI, including procedures, policies, guidelines, and processes. The incumbent is responsible for the research trust compliance review according to the institutional principles for the responsible use of research funds. The activities of this position support the goals of the Strategic Research Plan and reflect the objectives of institutional objectives, the policies of sponsors, including the Tri-Agencies, as well as other applicable regulatory structures. Research agreements, including contracts, are reviewed, and managed by the incumbent. The incumbent endeavors to integrate and advance CUE’s commitments to Indigeneity, equity, diversity, inclusivity, and to convey respect for those undertaking research, scholarly, or artistic endeavours.

**Responsibilities**:

- Manages the daily activities and operations of the service-oriented Research Administration Services Unit.
- Is the first point of contact for research administration-related matters at CUE for researchers, students, and staff.
- Administers and manages all research grant contracts and agreements received by the University.
- Provides expert advice, guidance, and up-to-date information to researchers about funding opportunities.
- Works collaboratively with the ORI Strategic Initiatives Officer in the development, implementation, and update (as needed) of research-related policies and procedures at CUE.
- Proactively anticipates policy and procedure related research administrative needs, designs and offers supports and resources to address the ongoing and emerging needs.
- Maintains an inventory of funding opportunities available to the researchers (faculty and students) at CUE.
- Works with the ORI Administrative Assistant to manage the content of the research website.
- Develops and retains in-depth knowledge and understanding of Tri-Agency, and other grant opportunities.
- Provides administrative oversight of sponsored research grants.
- Manages and coordinates the submission of final activity reports of institutional grants to funding agencies.
- Actively participates and collaborates in the development of institutional and strategic planning including contributing to institutional reports.
- Maintain a professional image and demeanor with all employees, management, executives, and visitors at all times.
