HEALTH PROMOTER
Full Time (Permanent)
Monday to Friday - 7 hours/day
Wabasca, Alberta
Bigstone Health Commission in Wabasca, Alberta is seeking an experienced and competent Health Promoter to join our talented Health Team. This role will provide leadership and work collaboratively with our partners, participants, community, and peers to identify and prioritize current and emerging health care support needs and inform local planning activities by identifying gaps in care and service approaches. This is a rewarding opportunity if you have an appreciation for Indigenous culture, a desire for continuing professional development and enjoy the support and collaboration from our multidisciplinary team and various other professionals and agencies.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Creating innovative strategies (including use of social media) to promote health that is culturally appropriate is community-based and engages all stages of the life cycle.
- Collaborates with staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion.
- Facilitates linkages with appropriate services, support, and resources.
- Promotes awareness of Bigstone Health Commission’s services and programs
- Promotes the importance and benefits of healthy eating, active living and positive mental well-being in children and youth through education and awareness.
- Establish networks in the community and work with other agencies to coordinate health promotion.
- Coordination of events, i.e., booking venues, securing caterer(s), booking speakers, etc.
- Creating monthly BHC’s Newsletter.
- Support, promote and advocate for the development and implementation of policies that support healthy living.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of project/program planning, implementation, monitoring, management, and evaluation.
- Knowledge of community-based health care.
- Knowledge of community-based resources, health promotion theory, quality improvement.
- Possess strong advocacy, leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Possess advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite & Digital Design.
- Knowledge and understanding of various cultural approaches to health.

**Education and Experience**:

- High School Diploma or Post-secondary education (Certificate or Diploma) related to health promotion, health education or health sciences.
- Minimum 2-3 years health promotion experience in community-based organization or related field.
- Previous experience working within First Nations communities would be an asset.
