This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new pilot project with our partners at Calgary Police Services supporting detainees with addiction and mental health concerns out of the Arrest Processing Unit, Spy Hill. Under the direction of the Clinical Operations Manager and Clinical Supervisor the Mental Health Clinician is responsible for providing specialized, time sensitive mental health assessment and consultation services as part of a collaborative team approach. This position is clinical in nature. Clinicians are responsible for providing mental health assessments, therapeutic interventions, referrals, and advocacy. The Mental Health Clinician in collaboration with the APU team will support clients with identification of needs and referrals to services with identified goal of diversion from future legal, forensic involvement. Clinicians will provide service to the challenging, hard to serve population who suffer from severe mental illness and addictions and face multiple problems in the community, including legal and forensic involvement, homelessness; social isolation; marginalization and often encounter significant barriers to accessing mental health and medical services. Clinically focused liaison and consultation to colleagues within health services and with Calgary Police Service officers as well as with community service providers will be required. The Mental Health Clinician will work within the context of the AHS and CPS Memorandum of Understanding and Information Sharing Agreement.

**Description**:
As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

**Required Qualifications**:
Occupational Therapists: Completion of bachelor¿s degree in Occupational Therapy and active or eligible registration with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT). Psychologists: Completion of bachelor's degree in Psychology and active (or eligible registration) with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP). Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses: Completion of an accredited Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing education program and active (or eligible registration) with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Social Workers: Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work and active (or eligible registration) with the Alberta College of Social Work (ACSW).

**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Minimum 6 years’ recent addiction and mental health experience, 2 years community experience. Extensive experience conducting crisis/mental health/suicide risk assessments with a provisional diagnosis. Solid knowledge foundation of intervention and treatment modalities relevant to various clinical disorders and psychosocial and environmental problems is required. Must be confident to work from a concurrent capable perspective. Comprehensive knowledge of co-existing medical and mental illnesses which significantly impact the lives of vulnerable and marginalized populations. Comprehensive knowledge of relevant community resources and agencies. Comprehensive knowledge of the Alberta Mental Health Act and legislation is required. Significant comfort with working with forensic clients who may pose a danger to the community. High degree of creativity and flexibility as well as the ability to work as part of a team and to engage and work with a diverse client population with complex needs. Basic computer skills are required. Ability to set priorities and organize time effectively. Ability to work in stressful, demanding and changing conditions. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi system partnership.
