**Elementary Math Specialist**

RHMS is seeking an Ontario Certified Teacher with Intermediate qualifications to fill a Math Specialist Teacher that will collaborate with our STEM team.

**Responsibilities**
- Teach students our enriched Math program, which pulls curriculum expectations from as high as the Grade 8 Ontario curriculum.
- Maintain and support students in your homeroom
- Create opportunities for cross curricular integration
- Teach students coding using M-Block and text-based coding languages such as Python and JavaScript
- Collaborate with the STEM teaching team to ensure a seamless progression of the program.
- Support the planning and judging of the annual School Science Fair
- Host STEM clubs and initiatives to encourage students to participate in challenges such as the University of Waterloo’s Beaver Computing Challenge and various Robotics Challenges.
- Collaborate with the math teaching team to ensure proper scaffolding and a seamless progression of backwards design unit planning.
- Create innovative, student-centered and engaging unit plans in a way that deepens student knowledge and understanding and motivates them to be more self-directed.
- Use a variety of formative and summative assessments to determine if lesson objectives were met, and to assess student’s skill development and understanding.
- Maintain a positive learning environment using age-appropriate and effective classroom management techniques.
- Organize the classroom and learning resources and keep theme-based display boards up-to-date.
- Maintain open, positive and consistent communication with students’ parents by providing feedback and keeping them up-to-date on student progress.
- Provide a high level of customer service to students’ parents when answering questions, holding parent-teacher interviews, etc.
- Organize and take part in school events, excursions and school-wide initiatives that may take place after school hours.
- Keep up-to-date with best practices in mathematical education through seminars, additional qualifications, etc.

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and/or Science, preferably with Honours.
- AQ in Intermediate divisions Science (General, Biology, Chemistry, etc.).
- Bachelor of Education with intermediate/senior qualifications.
- Math additional qualifications or undergrad equivalency.
- Ontario Teaching Certification (OCT) in good standing.
- Experience with M-Block and text-based coding languages such as Python and JavaScript.
- 2-3 years of full-time classroom experience teaching Math.
- Experience in a private school is preferred.

**Competency Requirements**
- Detailed understanding of the 5-strands of mathematics at a university level.
- Natural ability to facilitate learning by providing students with problem solving, adaptive reasoning, reflection and connection building techniques to work through mathematical problems.
- Creative, innovative, and positive approach to teaching.
- Understands the needs of students and goes beyond the call of duty.
- Excellent classroom management, organization and planning skills.
- Thrives in a positive team environment and easily adapts to new things.
- Communicates with parents, students, and co-workers in a respectful and supportive manner.
- Works with a high standard of integrity.
- Excellent oral, written, communication, facilitation and presentation skills.
- Highly proficient in navigating Windows and Apple operating systems and SMARTBoards. Skilled in Google Suites and Schoology an asset.

**Additional Information**

Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday

Additional hours may be required for school events.
