**Elementary and Primary (SK-Grade 6) Reading Specialist**
The Reading Specialist will help to create a culture of reading that ensures strong reading instruction, excitement about literature, and a genuine, institutional love for reading.
**Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to**:
- Assessing student reading levels and identifying areas of need
- Collaborating with teachers to design and implement individualized reading intervention plans for students who need extra support
- Providing one-on-one or small group instruction to students
- Utilizing a variety of teaching strategies and materials to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Monitoring student progress and providing feedback on ways to improve instruction
- Participating in professional development and staying current with the latest research in reading instruction
- Designing and delivering professional development opportunities for teachers
- Staying current with research and best practices in the field of education and sharing this information with teachers and administrators
- Collaborating with and coaching teachers on the use of assessment data to plan instruction
- Analyzing school literacy data and planning for future literacy needs
**Qualifications, Experience and Attributes**:
- Bachelor of Education and/or Montessori teacher training diploma is required
- Special Education Specialist Qualification is required
- Reading Remediation Intervention Training (e.g. Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Empower, Reading RemediationPlus) an asset
- Master’s Degree in Literacy or Reading Instruction an asset
- Independent School experience an asset
- Knowledge of Montessori pedagogy an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A current Vulnerable Sector Check
- Current First Aid, CPR and AED
