**Your opportunity**:
The Department of Molecular Genetics holds a leadership position in Canada and internationally as a premier venue for biomedical and life sciences research and education. We have over 100 faculty members. Our dynamic community of over 350 graduate students is engaged in M.Sc. and Ph.D. Program in Molecular Genetics. We offer a professional M.Sc. in Genetic Counseling as well as M.H.Sc. in Medical Genomics. Furthermore, the department provides a rigorous undergraduate specialist and major in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology. Our faculty, fellows, and students are highly acclaimed for pioneering phenomenal advances in some of the most exciting areas of modern science with a profound impact on human health.

As a Career Advisor at the Department of Molecular Genetics, you will play a pivotal role in helping our graduate students (MSc / PhD Molecular Genetics; MHSc Medical Genomics; MSc Genetic Counselling) define and achieve their career goals. You will provide personalized guidance, resources, and support to empower students to make informed decisions about their career paths. Furthermore, you will organize placements for our cohort of professional graduate students (M.H.Sc.) and will thus be an integral part of shaping our students' professional trajectories.

**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Providing one-on-one career counselling to graduate students across our graduate programs, assisting them in clarifying career goals, identifying strengths and interests, and exploring potential career paths.
- Counselling students on career-related matters by discussing options and consequences while incorporating personal circumstances and an understanding of an individual's background.
- Developing and delivering engaging workshops and seminars on topics such as resume writing, interview preparation, job search strategies, and networking.
- Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance to create placement opportunities.
- Assisting in organizing and promoting career fairs, networking events, and employer engagement initiatives.
- Contributing to the development of career-related content for our website, newsletters, and social media platforms.
- Staying current on industry trends and job market information to provide relevant and up-to-date advice to students.

**Essential Qualifications**:

- Master's Degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years of experience in career advising, counseling, or related fields.
- Demonstrated knowledge of graduate programs (Master's and PhD) in Molecular Genetics.
- Demonstrated knowledge of student placement and work-integrated learning opportunities within the field of Molecular Genetics.
- Experience providing counselling administration and planning for graduate programs in the field of Molecular Genetics.
- Strong understanding of career development theories, job search strategies, and employment trends.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of students, faculty, and employers.
- Demonstrated passion for supporting student success and professional growth.
