**Job Summary**

**What is the opportunity?**

The Head of Canadian Regulatory Relations leads a team responsible for managing the bank’s relationships with its financial regulators, principally the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (“OSFI”), providing strategic advice and management reporting to RBC’s Board of Directors, CEO, President and other key “C-Suite” and senior management stakeholders.

**What will you do?**
- Drives the strategic development and ongoing facilitation of healthy and productive relationships with the bank’s financial regulators through the oversight of a team responsible for Regulatory Relations.
- Work with stakeholders to identify, discuss and address emerging regulatory trends that may impact business operations; actively monitor and report on regulatory developments and trends.
- In coordination with RBC Regulatory Relations, develop, maintain and oversee Canadian standards for examination management, meeting facilitation, handling of regulatory requests/inquiries, and reporting and escalation of regulatory issues and concerns.
- Directly engage with regulatory officials with relevance to RBC’s key business segments and regions/countries, to increase awareness of regulators’ points of interest and importance.
- Develop and maintain enterprise-wide stature by providing trusted advice to executive management and Board members, ensuring key stakeholders have a clear “line of sight” into regulatory developments, trends, and emerging risks.
- Develop, maintain and continually enhance reporting and escalation criteria that appropriately identifies the significance and quality of regulatory risk in all lines of business across all three lines of defense.
- As needed, provide training and/or guidance to stakeholders on written and verbal communication with Regulators.
- Provide strategic input and advice to RBC Regulatory Relations regarding RBC’s Regulatory Engagement Model.
- Ensures a transparent and collaborative working relationship across RBC Regulatory Relations that maximizes consistency, efficiency and effectiveness.

**What will you need to succeed?**

**Must have**
- Law degree, MBA, or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of compliance and regulatory risk management practices
- Strong knowledge of RBC Businesses and Functions
- People management experience
- Knowledge of relevant policies and industry best practices relating to financial services
- Ability to effectively analyze risk to the organization of potential issues discovered
- Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communications skills with an ability to interact effectively with stakeholders and regulators, to include virtual, matrixed leadership experience and the ability to effectively manage and build relationships
- Attention to detail and accuracy are essential
- Solid Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills, as well as general Microsoft Office skills
- Ability to accept accountability, assume pro-active leadership, demonstrate initiative, and lead by example in teamwork, cross-unit co-operation, information sharing

- Effective organization skills, including the ability to prioritize between tasks and deadlines
- Former regulator background
