Hours: Full
- Time 31-35 hours week

Compensation: $21 - $23/hr, plus 3 weeks’ vacation and benefits

Organization Overview

Social Enterprise for Canada (SEC) is a charitable organization started in 1989 and serving York Region, Peel Region and Simcoe County. SEC seeks, secures and delivers a range of public services dedicated to creating communities that exemplify Canadian values of respect, inclusion, diversity, equity and sustainability.

SEC maintains its head office in Newmarket and provides public service signature expertise for immigrants, newcomers, early learning and development, Family Justice Service, Career and Labour market integration through programs such as Supervised Access, EarlyOn Child & Family Centres, Welcome Centre for Immigrant Services-Newmarket and several Before & After School and Licensed Childcare Programs.

The Opportunity

The ELS is responsible for providing safe and caring programs, in virtual and face to face environments including four season outdoor programming for children and families. As an ELS you will be responsible for providing engaging programming and implementation of children’s programs; facilitating various activities that promote physical activity, healthy eating and nutrition, positive personal development and wellness. You are comfortable in appropriately providing support to families to help them their understanding of how their child develops through play.

Key Job Responsibilities
- Demonstrate an understanding of core programs and effectively facilitate a variety of related activities that are aimed at engaging participants in the four foundations of How Does Learning Happen and life-long learning.
- Deliver programs to meet identified KPI/Outcomes.
- Plan for and implement an inquiry based emergent curriculum based on children’s individual interests and needs.
- Use observation and documentation to plan programs and share knowledge of inquiry based learning to engage parents and caregivers.
- Offer appropriate strategies that support families in managing their child’s behaviour and development.
- Identify opportunities to promote additional resources through handouts, sharing information, and documentation of learning in programs or videos.
- Make appropriate referrals and participant follow up while maintaining accurate records for data collection.
- Respond to individual needs of participants while maintaining confidentiality.
- Ensure a caring, stimulating and inclusive environment for the children and families attending the program.
- Ensure the health and safety of participants during service delivery
- Responsible for the cleaning and tidying of the facility and be responsible for the maintenance, safe use and safe storage of equipment.
- Maintain all standards related to division and organization policies and procedures, Public Health Guidelines and Health and Safety requirements.
- Provide regular reporting to Operations Supervisor regarding issues of need and/or concern and offer suggestions to ensure excellence of self, team and programs.
- Maintain all required records, forms and reports, meeting established timeframes.
- Collaborate with and maintain all community related partnerships as required/directed.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the SEC organization.
- Other duties, relevant to the position, shall be assigned as required.
- Post-secondary education in Early Child hood Education (RECE) or related field and/or relevant work experience.
- Current Registration with the College of ECE (RECE).
- Have clear verbal and written communication and strong interpersonal skills.
- Good organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
- Strong knowledge and implementation of child development theories and practices.
- Customer driven with the ability to determine customer needs both in person and in virtual programming.
- Able to work as a contributing team member in a dynamic, complex environment with partners, clients, staff and the public.
- Ability to effectively perform job duties with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrate strong morals and ethics, sound judgement and reasoning skills, along with a commitment to discretion and staff privacy
- Knowledge of MS Office and/or aptitude for learning, tools to support job delivery e.g. Trello, tablets, data tracking, zoom platform, adobe spark, Canva
- Willingness to work a non-consistent work schedule within current program operation hours (Monday to Sunday between the hours of 8:30 am and 9:00 pm) at varied site locations to meet program flexibility needs
