Oshawa, Canada Glazier Medical Centre Full time

This position is for a full-time Summer Student to work with our Medical Centre from May - September 1, 2024. The position is open to students, of any major, currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution.

Glazier Medical Centre has applied for funding under the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program for these positions (up to two).
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigrant and Refugee Protection Act* and;
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

**Duties of the Position Include**:
Daily activities for this position are split between two main components Central Booking and Medical Chart Review/Purge.
- Central Booking Tasks:_
- Manages a multi-line phone system, answering incoming calls to book appointments with family physicians located within the Centre
- Refers to individual physicians' booking guidelines to schedule appointments according to specific requirements for date/time and length of appointments
- Uses Electronic Medical Record system (PS Suite) to locate patient profile, reviews appointment history, and books appointments
- May provide lunch/break coverage for Switchboard Operator; transfers calls as appropriate, operates parking gate, takes payments on POS terminal.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality in the handling of sensitive/confidential material and information

Medical Chart Review/Purge
- Under the direction of the Staff Manager, the primary responsibility is to review, organize and purge paper medical records in accordance with CMPA regulations
- Reviews paper medical charts for most recent activity, and categorizes the chart based on dates of service
- Uses spreadsheet software to log all records
- Purges records that do not meet criteria for retention

**Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required**:

- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively communicate with medical/non-medical personnel and patients
- Excellent telephone manner with the ability to speak clearly and concisely
- Knowledge of business office procedures
- Ability to accurately type 45 WPM
- Intermediate skill with Microsoft Excel to populate and navigate spreadsheets
- Proven ability to work independently
- Strong organizational and problem solving skills
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions
- Knowledge of medical terminology an asset
- Experience with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems is an asset

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 4 months

**Salary**: $16.55 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
