The Club at North Halton (North Halton Golf and Country Club Limited) is a wonderful community style, private member club, boasting a very well-reviewed eighteen-hole golf course, an active curling club and many additional activities amongst our social membership. The Club prides itself as being a contributor to our local environment located in the heart of Georgetown, which is a beautiful rural community thirty minutes from Toronto and twenty minutes from Mississauga, Oakville, Brampton and Milton.

Position Summary

Reporting to the General Manager, the Controller will play a critical role in developing and implementing the financial strategy of The Club at North Halton (“the Club”). This position is responsible for the day-to-day general management of the administrative and accounting functions of the Club. The position manages/processes financial transactions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, maintenance of general ledger, month-end procedures including preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements and cash flows, coordination of the annual audit, and assistance in the preparation of the annual budget and updating of quarterly forecasts. It is also responsible for managing the administrative office with a team of two persons covering accounts receivable/membership and accounts payable/payroll/general ledger posting. Furthermore, as a member of the senior leadership team, the Controller will be an advisor to department heads, evaluating and assisting them with their financial plans and economic modeling. As the Controller there will be a strong emphasis on the internal audit function and assisting each department head in better managing their respective departments.

Responsibilities (may not be all inclusive).
- Help direct financial operations of the Club, assess Club performance against both the annual budget and the Club’s long-term strategy.
- Formulates, receives and recommends policy proposals for approval relating to accounting and auditing, the budget, revenue and cost control procedures, preparation and payment of payrolls, tax matters, compilation of statistics and office methods and procedures.
- Directs or prepares the monthly trial balance and resulting financial statements for the Club, including the income statement, balance sheet and statement of changes in financial condition.
- Manages and conducts internal auditing programs.
- Assist in preparing the operating budgets and financial forecasts in coordination with the departments and General Manager.
- Works with the club’s external auditors for annual review to ensures that procedures are consistent with Club policies.
- Prepares and verifies reports made to agencies and professional organizations for which dissemination is consistent with Club policies and legislation.
- Provides management support for reconciliations, monthly ledgers including receivables, payables, bank accounts, asset Pro Shop merchandise liability and wage accounts.
- Directs or supervises preparation of applicable federal and provincial tax returns.
- Directs or prepares accounting reports as necessary and appropriate for dissemination to the GM and Finance Committee.
- From time to time, attends Finance & Audit Committee and other meetings as required.
- Safeguards all funds in bank accounts; assures that revenues are properly and correctly deposited and supervises the drawing of all cheques.
- Oversees the process of semi-monthly payroll and maintains employee records of all staff on the semi-monthly pay frequency as well as benefits and pension administration.
- Provides oversight for the monitoring and the collection of past due accounts, advises GM when difficult situations arise that require further escalation.
- Monitors accounts receivable and acts according to established Club policies and procedures.
- Maintain high level of integrity, confidentiality and accountability of all information
