The Summer Camp Leader is a direct member of the front-line day camp team delivering program content and working directly with the campers. Leaders facilitate campers through a variety of programming activities each day, while striving to provide a positive camp experience for all participants. All members of the day camp team are expected to exhibit and build strong, positive leadership behaviours appropriate to mentor and grow younger volunteers into our future day camp staff.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

- To facilitate a group of children through a variety of activities.
- Be able to make on the spot decision-making, be responsible for completing activities which includes, transitioning children to the next scheduled activity and cleaning up equipment, area, and materials.
- Ensures that the facility is kept clean, and that equipment is handled and stored properly and organized
- Can effectively lead a group of children in a day-camp setting, while ensuring the daily schedule is being followed.
- Consistently exhibits a professional attitude and positive demeanor with co-workers and Camp Coordinator
- To be able to provide leadership and to work in a team setting, with co-workers and Camp Coordinator.
- Through demeanor and action, strives to make camp a positive experience for campers
- Prompt and attentive during day camp and participates with/supervises campers during all activities (including swimming and skating)
- Knows and enforces rules and safety guidelines to all campers, as well as keep track of campers’ allergies and medical conditions
- Identifies and responds appropriately to behaviour problems
- Reports concerns to Camp Coordinator (i.e. incidents + reports, behaviour issues, injuries)
- Provides excellent communication with campers, co-workers, and Camp Coordinator
- Arrives for shift on time or early, and always wears appropriate attire (i.e. sneakers, Camp shirt, athletic bottoms)

Qualifications and Requirements:

- Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Upbeat, engaging personality
- Experience working in a day camp setting, with children aged 5 - 12 years
- First Aid, CPR, NLS training would be beneficial
- Physical ability to participate in activities, run, climb, swim, lift or support the weight of children
- Ability to pass Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 2 months

**Salary**: $15.00 per hour

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- Morning shift

Work Location: In person

Expected start date: 2023-06-27
