**Laboratory Analyst - Asbestos Lab**

**(Full time)**

**As a Laboratory Analyst, your main responsibilities are to**:

- Preparation and analysis of bulk materials for asbestos using Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) and analysis of air samples by Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM).
- Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos materials.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures.
- Review LIMS summary reports to plan and organize daily work to meet TAT specifications required by the client.
- Perform quality control maintenance and analysis.
- Identify any non-routine samples and seek guidance on procedures for handling.
- Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples.
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
- Assist with ordering supplies.
- Participate in internal and external audits.
- Provide general lab support and perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned

**You are the ideal Laboratory Analyst, if you have a**:

- College diploma/B.Sc. degree in Geology, Biology or Chemistry
- Minimum one year laboratory experience preferred
- Microscopic analysis experience would be an asset.
- Basic knowledge of asbestos and provincial asbestos regulations would be an asset.
- Must be able to distinguish colours in order to perform analysis.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Dynamic, energetic, motivated individual with a "can-do" attitude and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Good time-management, multi-tasking and priority setting skills and are able to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Adaptable and flexible to a changing environment.
- Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Possess good computer skills; LIMS experience is an asset.
- Organized, detail-oriented with excellent record keeping skills.
- Must be able to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions.
