The Controller is responsible for the management of financial operations at the airline and is responsible to the Accountable Executive/Chief Executive Officer. The Controller is responsible for reporting the company’s financial results to both internal and external stakeholders, establishing an overall company financial plan including departmental budgets, and for the development of financial bids and modelling for specific projects.
**JOB DESCRIPTION**
- Responsible for ensuring adequate internal controls are in place for the accurate processing of financial and non-financial data;
- Compliance with all laws, regulations, company policy and procedures related to the company’s finance and administrative functions;
- Responsible for full cycle accounts receivable and accounts payable tasks including but not limited to collecting information, preparing client invoices, reviewing vendor invoices, managing daily cash and banking activities, posting general ledger entries, and maintaining accurate records;
- Review and administer contractual commitments as they relate to financial obligations;
- Develop the financial well-being of the organization by providing accounting services, financial projections, preparing growth plans, budgeting, and directing staff;
- Collaborate with the executive team to form organizational strategies and contribute financial and accounting information, reporting, analysis, and recommendations;
- Establish operational finance strategies by evaluating trends, establishing metrics, and creating active dashboards and reports;
- Collaborate with each department Vice President to help determine production, productivity, quality, and customer-service strategies; design systems; accumulate resources; resolve problems; and implement change;
- Develop organization prospects by studying economic trends and revenue opportunities, projecting acquisition and expansion prospects; analyzing organization operations; identifying opportunities for improvement, cost reduction, and systems enhancement; and accumulating capital to fund expansion;
- Develop financial strategies by forecasting capital and facilities, identifying monetary resources, and developing action plans;
- Monitor financial performance by measuring and analyzing results, initiating corrective actions, and minimizing the impact of variances;
- Maximize return on invested funds by identifying investment opportunities and maintaining relationships with the investment community;
- Create monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including IS, cash flow, balance sheet, variances from budgets and other necessary reports as determined by the AE/CEO or the Chairman/BOD;
- Create SOTA reports and IOSA audit reports (when active) monthly, quarterly, and annually;
- Report monthly, quarterly, and annually financial status by developing forecasts, reporting results, analyzing variances, and developing improvement plans and initiatives;
- Liaise with each department Head to create budgets, forecasts, and project plans, including active management and financial reporting thereof throughout the lifecycle of the item;
- Active participation in Lessons Learned projects, financial and resource reporting and ideation sessions;
- Update job knowledge by remaining aware of new regulations, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations;
- Accomplish finance and organization mission by completing related results as needed;
- Actively promote safety and quality within the organization and department by encouraging employee participation in SMS and ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders;
- Comply with all SMS and safety policies, processes, and standards;
- Participate in the SMS process by establishing budgets and the financial resource planning required for SMS initiatives and progress reporting throughout the ordinary course of business as it relates to the safe operations of the airline;
- Hold a position on the SMS Executive Committee and is required to report at each meeting on the financial status of the company and SMS-related budgets and projects;
- Any other duties and projects as assigned by the Accountable Executive/Chief Executive Officer.
**JOB REQUIREMENTS**
- Post-secondary education in accounting/finance and accounting designation required;
- Minimum five years’ experience in a senior accounting role with a minimum of three years supervisory/management experience;
- Aviation/airline experience preferred;
- Sound knowledge of MS Office products, including Word and Excel, knowledge of accounting systems preferably Sage software;
- Strong planning, organizational and time management skills;
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment in a diversified demographic with high tolerance for change;
