Community Support Assistant

**The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul of Vancouver Island **is looking for an energetic and creative **Summer Student** to join the collaborative and welcoming team at the** Frederic Ozanam Centre**. In this role you will work in our Community Inclusion Program for adults with diverse abilities.
This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) wage subsidy program and is ideal for students currently enrolled in healthcare, or human/social service seeking valuable hands-on experience in a dynamic and rewarding environment.
You will work alongside a dedicated team of Community Support Workers assisting participants with daily living activities, including personal, social, physical, recreational, vocational, and educational needs. This position spans 8 weeks, and you will need to commit to **35** **hours a week** starting in mid-June.
**Tasks & Responsibilities**
As a summer student, you will be a positive role model, demonstrate enthusiasm and be willing to assume responsibility for daily challenges. You will work with the team to:
- Plan and prepare for participant’s program activities. Provide emotional support and monitor their well-being.
- Facilitate physical, recreational, and educational activities for participants.
- Assist with participants’ life skills training and behaviour management.
**Qualifications**
- Genuine interest and ability to work with individuals with diverse abilities.
- An ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with participants, caregivers, and community members
- Accountable, with an ability to work effectively in collaboration with others.
- Good organization, time, and general management skills.
**Additional Requirements**:
- A Ministry of Justice Vulnerable Sector Clearance Letter is required prior to hiring.
- Direct delivery program activities will require a moderate level of physical fitness.
- A current first aid certificate.
- The Frederic Ozanam Center is under a Public Health Order (PHO). All applicants must be fully vaccinated as defined by the PHO.
