JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Director of Learning, Information & Technology, the Data Systems Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance and ongoing updating of York School core academic and operational databases. The incumbent will serve as a key contributor to the Learning, Innovation and Technology Department with responsibilities for the administration, implementation and support of database records and procedures in order to ensure integrity and accuracy of information for all users across the York School organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Maintain and support the York school Filemaker database and Blackbaud Student Information systems
- Coordinate with the division Principals and core academic leadership team to create and maintain student, staff and room timetables
- Support the delivery of ministry reports including ONSIS, OUAC and OSSLT
- Maintain the school's attendance workflow, coverage system and all University counselling systems
- Working closely with outside vendors, enhance school data experience through development and improvement of workflow (e.g. Direct Impact and Timetabling Services)
- Plan for appropriate integration and synchronization of relevant Learning Management tools as aligned with the school’s strategic plan and academic toolkit
- Train, coordinate and support data owners and departmental database users to ensure accuracy, validity, and security of data entering and leaving data systems
- Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training across school departments and divisions
- Ensure best practices for backup and recovery of databases and stay informed of emerging threats to data security and recommends strategies to mitigate vulnerabilities
- Research, test, and coordinate patches and upgrades to database servers to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
- Manages and resolves Help Desk related queries related to data systems and coordinates with the LIT team to resolve tickets

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

- University degree or college diploma in a related field and at least 3 years experience in database administration
- Proven working experience as a Data Systems Administrator
- Strong working knowledge of the principles, methodology and techniques for information security, including data security, access control, and related legislation (e.g. FIPPA, Bill C-11)
- Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity and SQL
- Familiarity with database design, documentation and scripting
- Previous experience with DBA case tools (frontend/backend) and third-party tools
- Familiarity with API programming languages
- Demonstrates strong troubleshooting techniques and problem-solving skills with a focus on creative resolution and continuous improvement
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Has good communication skills, verbally and in writing
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Has the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and adjust priorities accordingly
- Knowledge of PHP is considered an asset
- Displays a high degree of confidentiality when handling sensitive information
